In pakistan facebook has been banned because of some guy from europe made a "who can draw the funniest picture of muhammad" contest. I am a muslim and don't understand why people keep making fun of our religion. You don't see us making fun of Christianity or Judaism Etc. Why?

The reason why Muslims originally came up with "no depictions of Muhammad" was to prevent worship of that depiction rather then what it stood for. Very similar to the no graven images in Christianity. Not only is it ridiculous to hold a non-Muslim to Muslim rules. This one in particular is worthless to enforce on non-Muslims, since a non-Muslim wouldn't worship the depiction in the first place.

I think it's a good thing. People need to be offended now and again to keep them humble.

I agree, everything held sacred should be made fun of from time to time. Interestingly some native American tribes had someone who's job was to make fun off anything held sacred just for the reason of keeping the tribe humble.

They sure had it right. If only you didn't go and slaughter them all. Seriously, one of my workmates is half Glasweigan and half native Indian, and some of the old proverbs he uses can only be described as good old fashioned wisdom. We can learn a hell of a lot from those guys.

But I digress. In short bluedevil, it's your prerogative to be offended, and it's everyone elses prerogative to offend you if they so choose. It's just how the world works.

I think FF and MGW just about summed it up...

And it's not his prerogative to be offended, I have several muslim friends none of who so much as blinked at the contest. If you truly believe in you religion than you shouldn't care what other think of you for following it.

I agree that Muslims shouldn't feel offended/persecuted by this, but regardless it is still their right to be offended.
