well its not the actual ending but its and ending to someones life it was so sad when gost died from mw2 i was almost crying because he was so awesome i was yelling no gost u cant die no

The saddest video game ending for me was in Half Life 2 Episode 2 where the Combine Advisors break through the White Forest and kill Alyx's father Eli Vance. Just then D.O.G comes in the kills one of the Advisors and the other flees. As you drop to the floor you see Alyx crying over the corpse of her father. D.O.G in the background looking all sympathetic.

Or Red Dead Redemption, John Marston's a legend. Although he totally could've chucked a TNT through the barn window at the top then gone round the back and dead-eyed them

Red Dead Redemtion ending is something unexpected, but you can take your revenge >

I would say God of war 3 though he did deserve it for being a jerk.

The saddest ending is the one in Mario: the guy kills Bowser though he knows he can't die and he'll be there in the next castle, and Bowser can't change his way of being because he was designed that way. Moreover, Princess Peach doesn't love him, so she just kisses him in the cheek to prove she is grateful, as he has spent his time travelling from world to world just to find Toad telling him the Princess is in another castle...

I'm pretty sure there's like a secret ending (From what I heard on YouTube) In Metal Gear Solid 4 where Solid Snake gives himself the old bullet in the mouth. It may not be secret though, I don't own the game.
But the point is: OH WHY?!!? *sniff* WAAAAH!

The Renegade endings in Mass Effect 2 are extremely sad (I saw them on youtube, my 2 endings were totally Paragon)...

And ''that thing'' in the end of Red Dead Redemption (mission The Last Enemy That Shall Be Destroyed) was very sad too =\\

no one would know this but the ending of syphon filters Logan's shadow (second) where Lian's secret husband kills himself because he knows something everyone (the global powers) wants Logan is killed (I'm pretty sure) and Trinidad while Trinidad was trying to assassinate him while Lian tries to save him using CPR and fades out
