Sexual addiction is a pattern of sexual behaviours that are out of control and continue despite negative consequences. As in other addictions, changes in brain chemistry are at the core of the addiction. In sex addiction, the changes are caused by sexual behavior and fantasizing about sex or romantic activities. Sex addiction is a process addiction because no chemicals are taken into the body. Chemical changes occur in the body because of the addicts behaviours. Any sexual activity that causes changes in body chemistry can become and addiction. Even on-line romances become addictive when they are a substitute for reality or a way to escape reality.

Truly to be an "addict" your actions have to be to the degree that other areas of your personal and/or social life suffer as a result of your addiction and you must continue the action in spite of these negative consequences.
There are many people who have sex very frequently and it doesn't affect their lives in any negative way. Then again there are some who have sex only infrequently, yet it has a profound negative impact on their lives, causing negative consequences both personally and socially.
It is the same with anything. Moderation does not necessarily mean that there will be no negative consequences, just like excess does not automatically indicate addiction.
Well, i don't know anyone with a sex addiction, but i guess it's very euwm. yea it sure isn't useful. But sex addiction, does that also mean those guys/girls rape people or so? or what else negative would they do when they have a sex addiction?
Some people even get horny from trees.. very weird:P

Yeah I actually watched a special about that a while back, seems like a year or two ago. They actually fell in love with, and had lustful feelings for, inanimate objects. I remember one woman who was only turned on by ferris wheels or some such thing. Quite interesting.
Your libido is contingent on so many factors (medication, mental state, physical state, etc). I am not sure you can even give a fair average on desire for sex. The "norm" doesn't exist.
I agree with South Park on this stupid addiction... Sex addiction is something overrated and way blown out of proportion... People can get addicted to anything as long as there's pleasure involved such as sports and exercising, along with drugs and "sex"... They simply decided their lives were too tough and kept seeking for whatever joy they could find until their brains simply didn't produce enough endorphins/other neurotransmitters for pleasure and they kept seeking the greater high. There's probably a pinch of self-esteem and pride issues there too.
and U.S. seems to have way too loose on sex also... I mean my friend got his first blowjob at 3rd grade... I mean seriously there's something troublesome going on here... (He said "This girl gave me a blowjob." in the middle of the courtyard at school and the girl was grinning without saying anything)
I'm a bit of a prude when it comes to sex but sheesh.
