I was wondering if anyone else uses a linux based operating system. Im currently using Ubuntu and so far its worked great. Well i've recently started using linux and love it. Its almost impossible to get a virus in it since 95% of viruses are for windows and then mac and linux is at the bottom of the totem pole. The only draw back is that you can use windows programs on linux, so if you have warcraft 3 for windows, it wont work on linux. There is a way to run them through a program called wine but i dont know much about that. Oh the best part about downloading ubuntu? you keep all of your windows information, the only change is that when you boot of your comp it gives you the the choice 1.boot windows 2.boot ubuntu. So im not trying to advertise or anything, i just wanted to know if anyone else currently uses it. If you dont, ask around, ubuntu is really helpful if your constantly getting virused
I had it on my desktop which also had Windows XP and it worked heaps better than Windows. But that computer died thanks to it being a Dell and having Windows and FireFox. My good laptop has Windows Vista which I hate, and my tiny 9" netbook has Ubuntu. It's better than Windows so I use it, despite it being a completely bullshit computer.
yeah, i can boot and get on firefox in less than a minute with linux, windows took like 5 just to load my backround. Linux is also open source so you can change anything you want, and if someone finds a flaw, they can update it instantly.
Eh, Linux is the best operating system ever. The only reason why I need Windows is because of game compatibility. Yes, I know about Wine but it's still more convenient using Windows for games.
I haven't used Linux yet, when I get a new computer I'll load up an Ubuntu live disc. Eh, I want to install multiple OSes on a new computer.
Ubuntu is the best distro in my opinion for end users such as ourselves. Linux games are awesome as Pazx said.
Also Orion I came across several possible solutions; updating bios, updating video card, chip drivers and installing legacy distros. Also make sure your iso is a good copy and that you have a good version. Ubuntu has the ability to install inside of windows which might also bypass your problem.

Be careful with that it could get ugly after a while.

Yeah I was able to jack a school computer that they were throwing away along with some other good parts and make a linux only computer. Told my teacher that it was for a zombie bot net project and that I would come back latter to set up the network an use the schools computers as my own person processor farm.
