Did you know that an octopus named Paul guessed almost all the winners of the games in the world cup? He got like 7 games right in a row. I think thats pretty awesome. What do you think?

OCTOPI ARE NEARLY COMPLETELY BLIND.

Which proves that Paul is psychic, not a good guesser

Don't agree. They have a quite good sight in fact

I think we should tell him to pick a side of a coin with food on top. If heads we grill him and if tails we kill him. That will eliminate the Gang leader theory

I don't agree with you, scientists have proven that it orientates itself using mostly sound and odor, it is colorblind and is not accustomed to seeing bright things, as it lives in darker areas near the seabed. So basically it is nearly blind.

I think we should fry him if we kill him.

Here is some fact to backup my argument.

The species Octopus vulgaris is almost certainly color blind; neither behavioral studies nor electroretinogram experiments show any discrimination of a color's hue.

Being colour blind and not accustomed to bright light doesn't mean it is almost blind; you're right, living in darker regions make colours less important, thus the colour blindness, and it doesn't need to see in bright light if it's dark. I also know that due to the position of their photoreceptors, they see slightly more diffuse than we do. But I still wouldn't speak of almost blind, they can still see what happens around them. They did an experiment where one kraken unlocked a device with food inside, and another one, who had been watching, could reproduce what the first one did. And they weren't in the same tank. How do you explain that with sound and odor?

Of course the interesting part for this thread specifically is the colour blindness, which makes it impossible for Paul to really differ between the flags, so your point that he is rather a psychic than a good guesser is perfectly founded :P (sorry for double posting, but I forgot to make this point)

Yes you may be right about the blindess in general, but in this thread him being colorblind really does intensify the fact that he is psychic

The handler's psychic mind makes the octopus pick the right flag.

I would too. There is more verifiable evidence that Paul has supernatural powers than any god that I've heard of :P
