It's July, and you know what that means: NFL training camp. It's time for the World Cup passion to subside, and the NFL to once again take over the interests of stateside sports fans. So tell me: What are your predictions for the upcoming season, and who are your ultimate sleepers and busts? What is your favorite training camp headline? And, in light of the LeBron situation that has finally ended, who do you think is being the biggest drama queen (i.e. Albert Haynesworth, Brett Favre), or is being screwed by his franchise (i.e. Vincent Jackson, Tom brady)?
As a full-time San Diego Chargers fan, I would love to see them go all the way. But will that ever happen, especially when their Pro Bowl wide receiver (Vincent Jackson), is being squeezed like a lemon? It doesn't help that the guys is going to be suspended the first three games of the season. Aside from the Chargers, I think Albert Haynesworth is reinforcing stereotypes about star athletes, and in the worst way possible. I mean, the guy is getting $100 million from the Washington Redskins, and he'd rather sit out just because he doesn't like (Super Bowl winning) coach Mike Shanahan's defensive scheme.
I think that the Eagles will end up 2-14. Kevin Kolb's stats will be: 16 GS, 3 TD, 20 INT, and 50 Sacks. Andy Reid will be fired Midseason, and every Eagles fan will miss McNabb.
Ok, that's kind of exaggerating, but I think Kevin Kolb is really overrated. He made 2 starts against bad defenses and everyone thinks he's a hero and he's going to give the Eagles a Super Bowl. I really hate the Eagles because their fans are obnoxious and their coach is stupid. I also hate the Patriots because I'm a Jets fan, and the Giants because I'm a Jets fan. I also hate the Colts because of Peyton Manning.
The Patriots are a bunch of cheating ***holes who have a good coach, and that's it. Their fans are The Giants are the most pathetic team, besides the Raiders, in all of the NFL. I went to one game last year (because my dad got tickets), and they lost 41-9 because their defense was absolutely horrible, and Eli Manning is a bad QB who's overrated because his brother is God. Which brings me to my next point, the Colts are a depressed franchise. They have a QB who completely turned around the team, which is not a good thing for them because when he retires, they're going to do horrible. Wayne and Clark are getting old. Dwight Freeney is getting old. That's enough ranting for now, so here's what I think about the 2010 Jets:
They look really good. I love sh*t talking coach Ryan because he's a defensive guru and he's not afraid to do anything. Sanchez might have an off year which isn't good but the rushing attack looks a lot better, with Shonn Greene and freaking LT (sorry FryLock...) Their Offensive line might not be as good with the loss of Alan Faneca, but it's still good. Their defense looks amazing because of not only Revis, but Antonio Cromartie who's working really hard to be good again. They have the OK Defensive Line and then the really good Linebackers and average Secondary. It kinda worries me that they play the Dolphins twice since the Dolphins have Brandon Marshall but it'll be ok.
you're right it is time for real football. the English Premier League begins in a month. looking forward to a great season, and hopefully better form from Liverpool.
Actually pauler I have to completely disagree with you regarding the Colts. Sure they have a great QB and he has done a lot for the team, but a QB can't win a game on his own, and he can't perform without a strong offensive line, or make passes to receivers that can't get free and make catches. On top of that, it doesn't matter how many points the offense can put up, if the defense can't hold the opposition then the game is still lost. There are so many elements to a winning football team yet people tend to say it's all on the QB and they forget about the rest of the team.
Packer number two defense last year oh yeah. Hopefully the offensive line doesn't have as many holes as swiss cheese this time around so aaron rodgers doesn't have to run all over just to get off one pass. btw I bet Brett retires even though he signed a two year deal.
I don't think Brett will. He is doing great with the Vikings (even though I grrrrr every time I see him in a purple jersey) and he is one of those players that genuinely seems to just want to play. I think as long as he stays in good enough physical condition he'll keep playing. Everyone wants to get down on him for changing his mind so much, but imagine being in his position. He obviously loves to play and wants to as much as possible, but then you have to consider your personal and family life, and free time as well. It really has to be a tough personal decision.
Pauler I think you are somewhat correct. Kolb is way overrated. But I think there young team will support Kolb with there WR's DeSean Jackson, Celek, Basket ect ect. Plus The eagles defense is really good with great corners like Samuels. I think Reid is a good coach. But chokes in the playoffs. Seeing they have been in the playoffs 7 times in the last 8 years. I think if they can get a average QB and have Kolb and Vick be backups. They can grow to finally win a Super Bowl.
MRWalker, you may be right, but even if the defense is good and the QB is bad, you can't really win games that way. Also, Dwight Freeney is their best defensive player, and you saw how it turned out when he exited with an injury in the super bowl, so when he retires their D will probably fall apart.
Nater, I don't think the Eagles will ever win a Super Bowl with Andy Reid. Not if he makes stupid mistakes by trading McNabb to a team that's capable of taking the NFC East with Mike Shanahan.
Also, I respect soccer for being the most popular sport in the world, but come on, really? You're making fun of football because they don't use their feet all the time? You try being a Quarterback with an offensive line equivalent to bricks that aren't cemented together, or being a running back who dives headfirst into 300 pound linemen. It's like getting into a car-crash about 15 times a day. It's a tough sport.

You can't teach talent and youngness. The Eagles got that. You guys don't.
uhh on that rant on the eagles, you forgot to throw in MIKE VICK. he might not be what he used to be, fast, strong arm, ect. but now he has something to prove and really wants to be on the field. if he plays (and he will) he will win

If you're talking about me (I think?), I included everything bad about the Eagles in my rant. I think Vick should be the starter because he's, well, pretty good. Vick needs a chance, and Andy Reid doesn't realize that.
Also, Google, I think the Raiders made some good changes, but they'll probably be last in the AFC West. Again... but now that Jamarcus Russell is gone, they'll probably be 7-9. Russell should have been good, but he spent his $39 million on donuts and McDonalds.
