Okay, I just want to say, when will people get that irony and sarcasm doesn't have the same meanings?! I mean, it's so easy to understand, you don't need to be Albert Einstein.

An example of irony; "Cats like fish, but hate water". Get it?

You don't even need an example for sarcasm. Sarcasm = saying something but meaning the opposite.

And if you didn't get this, look up this.
And these two; this and this.

Oh, and OT:

No, most people seem not to understand such terms as irony, sarcasm, metaphor, analogy, or any other similar term. But then again I doubt these same people understand much else about the english language or common terms for types of usage. These are typically the same people whose posts are riddled with grammatical and spelling errors, so why should we to expect them to understand and properly apply more advanced terms if they can't even determine the difference between a noun and a pronoun or a synonym, homonym, or antonym?

Well mrWalker, half of the people here didn't get their education in an english-speaking language.

Thught I know all the terms anyway... except for irony. I didn't learn that in school. It would be much easier to know all the terms in biology and stuff if greek was taught in schools.

Actually I don't find that to make much of a difference. Sadly the majority of the grammatical and spelling errors I see are from people in the US. Tells you a lot about the state of our education system these days. I would have been flunked for some of the mistakes I'm seeing on here and these kids are still progressing in grade.

It's not just in English language. mean. Half of my real life friends don't know the difference. And when you try too teach/tell them They get it for one minute. And then they somehow forget it or something.

The worst is when you cant tell someone is using sarcasm, and you respond and look like an ass. And when someone uses sarcasm to insult me or something i believe it triggers rage mode. I have insulted others by sarcasm to further my own beliefs or opinions. Hypocrite/selfish can not escape the Human

I hope you are all aware that irony is relative to the person using it and no matter what you say anything can be considered irony. You could consider that sentence ironic because you all expected me to be a mean dick saying useless things but I was actually polite and useful. You could find that last sentence ironic because I actually explained myself and my reasoning and you expected me to just sit here as usual expecting everyone to understand as opposed to just explaining it to people who didn't, how ironic of Klaushouse!

I could go on for days, the point of the matter is like the article Nemo linked to says, you are probably aware of what the person wanted to say regardless of if they used it correctly so just shut the fuck up already and stop trying to be a stupid kid thinking he is smart for incorrectly asserting that something isn't ironical.

Irony?

I don't think so, but I don't care.

I think I'm going to spend this debate time doing something constructive, like punching babies in the face.

What is? The fact that punching babies isn't constructive?
