First: i didn't know where this topic should be, so i thought i put it in the tavern
But i hear from a lot of friends that video games improved their english, and a teacher of mine said: boys who don't do a thing but gaming score low in every subject, except for English. What's your opinion about it? Did you also learn other languages other then English?
I speak and write english only in function of VG. Sometimes a word pops up and I can't remember its pronuciation. You should hear me say "key item"... But Thanks to VG I can now speak quite well!
In some games say, Oblivion where when you talk to NPCs they have subtitles (if they're on) you might just learn a new word or how to correctly spell a word.
old rpgs could more then like do better then the new shooters...
as for me, rpgs helped me lots with my english, while the shooters didn't really do shit....... also, english seems kinda pointless to me... (it's called Lang. Arts but it's really english, kinda pointless to keep teaching it...)
Watching my brother play video games taught me how to read when I was about 2 years old. Since you kinda need a little bit of reading for everything, I usually get A's in every subject.
That's true, but with some videogames you don't have dutch/german/chinese/something else:P subtitles, only english, so you can learn a bit english with it
also with things like anime, you hear japanese but you see the english subtitles and sometimes you learn a word because of this, like baka = idiot and arigato = thank you:P
I'm sure you can learn the odd word but it doesn't teach you a language completely xD I learnt to type faster from on-line games but didn't improve English, just computer skills really..
