HR-5741

I can see both sides here, but I want to know what you think.

I have not looked into the bill that much yet, but from the little I have read so far, these are my thoughts.

I don't care how much this bill will help the economy, I will never support it. It could even get us out of debt completely and everybody in America could have a job they enjoy and I still would not support the bill.

I believe that the military is a great opportunity for all young adults. I believe everyone should jump in and join the national guard before going to college. I believe I should have, and still should, join a branch of the military.

Despite how good the military can be, it is forced. I don't like the idea of being forced to join the military unless it's absolutely necessary, unless it is during a time of war bigger than the one we are currently in. Even if the bill does sound like a good idea, the kind of power behind the bill belongs to the people, not the government.

If the government gains power that is used for a good cause, eventually someone will take office and use that power for bad.

Drace SPAMS!!!!!

Look how good a position the illegal imigrants are in. They don't have to be slaves. They enjoy the benefits of the US without paying for it.

In the US, do you have to join the military?

no, theres like enough troops for now, drafting would suck if they had to start it, no one chooses where to be born

I find the bill to be a terrible idea. Firstly, it provides the president with entirely too much power, which is exactly what our founders wanted to avoid. Secondly, forced labor will put paid employees and contractors out of work. Bottom line. That cannot, and would not, be good for our economy. We have already learned that any form of conscription has an overall detrimental effect on our armed services, so use of this bill in that manner would be the worst of it's possible applications.

I wouldn't have a problem with mandatory service if we had our system set up like Switzerland: neutral. Sending someone into a war that they don't believe (in as the USA has done in the past), however, should be illegal.

Well.. It seems way to close to being government slaves. I don't like this. The feeling in my gut warns against it as well. Our government is overstepping it's power, and not putting that power in the right place. I think Criminals should have to work labor, because they should have to do something for the community.

Something that our criminals can do are those "dirty jobs" where no one really wants to do but they do it anyways because they get paid and it's simple. They can contribute to the community and serve their sentence this way. Do people really want these kinds of jobs I'm talking about? No. Taking the riff-raff jobs out of the way for the criminals to work on will have the rest of society applying for jobs that are actually lucrative. If they cannot do this, then they will obviously work on their studies so they can. We move on up in life, the criminals aren't staying in 1-star hotels, and we are both happy.

Tell that to the homeless, or the uneducated, that can't get a job and need the money to eat. There are plenty of people willing to do these jobs, they are simply denied the opportunity.

This bill will never pass, it's more symbolic than anything else. Such a bill would lead to a revolution and a violent one at that. Such a bill would be unconstitutional and akin to slavery which I am quite sure is illegal. Just someone trying to start a debate, not give government more power than it could ever need.

Still, maybe I should pick up a few extra boxes of .223 for my AR, just in case.

Revolutions wouldn't work in civilized countries.

What brand do you use? I've been shooting some Brown Bear HP since it's fairly cheap, and haven't had that many problems with it even after 300 rounds.

Also, all of you should take a step back and look at what this really is, a simple conscription. It's not the Government being tyrannical or anything, conscriptions provide general experience in warfare to every citizen, which can hardly harm anything. However, this new bill should 100% mirror Finland's idea on conscriptions.

Actually this is NOT a military conscription, and yes, it is tyrannical, and yes conscription does harm the citizens.
