Who do you think was the greatest person who has ever lived and why?I would prefer it if it wasn't a founder or leader of a religion or cult and no evelutionary or atheistic people.

Whoa, freaking John Lennon and the rest of the Beatles were drug addicts. Jimi Hendrix was a great person who not only helped revolutionized music/guitar but his songs were pure poetry. His actions and his music spoke to and inspired people to be themselves despite what anyone thinks. So, in closing, screw anyone who thinks differently.

They weren't drug "addicts". They did drugs, right...it was part of the hippie culture of the 60s. Almost all the classical musicians did drugs, even the Beach Boys rofl.

You should really listen to the meaning of the Beatles and especially John Lennon's lyrics.

I love the Beatles and even after they split they're solo stuff. I was just commenting on how John Lennon is always regarded as a revolutionary despite being a drug addict and Hendrix isn't because he did drugs.

If you do drugs, especially over an extended period of time like they were, you do become an addict. Also, oddly enough, the Beach Boys were heavy into drugs and were banging groupies two and three at a time.

Some Lennon songs were purposely nonsensical id est I Am the Walrus. Lennon wrote it just to mess with people who tried to analyze it.

I'm gonna have to break the rules here and say Charles Darwin. His Theory of Evolution, although it was far from perfect, changed the course of the world. His discovery challenged all the things that the church taught and he went ahead and published anyway. Or maybe it was Gregor Mendel, his dedication to his work and the results of which were instrumental in the discovery of genetics.

Well I asked that you not use those people so to not start a religious debate here.

No but I was simply bringing scientific advancement into it. Darwins Theory of Evolution and Mendel (who was a monk I believe) discovering genetics.

Thomas Edison for creating electricity

Thomas Edison didn't create electricity, he developed practical applications for electricity. Though his achievements would still be more then enough to have him listed here.

Yeah, me too. I'd say Mahatma Gandhi. With a Nobel Peace Prize and being the runner-up to Albert Einstein as "Person of the Century" at the end of 1999, I rest my case. His mind was just so revolutionary and peaceful at the same time; he was definitely a great influential person in the world.

He didn't create electricity, he found ways to use it but he didn't create it.

Screw you!!!

In my AP Euro class we had this competition where you had to pick a character and argue why you were the most influential person.

I lost to Gutenberg in the 3rd round playing as a feminist
