Who do you think was the greatest person who has ever lived and why?I would prefer it if it wasn't a founder or leader of a religion or cult and no evelutionary or atheistic people.
I'm going to have to say Hippocrates. You laugh, but he is the father of modern medicine. Without him, people would still be thinking God/gods caused disease and would have no idea about diet, hygiene, or germs. So my vote definitely goes in for Hippocrates. I would say his wisdom has saved, over the course of history, millions of lives.
Hippocrates. His oath still used in modern medicine. He was the father of modern medicine, but, there is Plato, Aristotle, and Thales. All philosiphers, and there is Lecippius, who introduced the theory of Atomism.
A large starter point in a chain reaction of inventions and new principles for further inventions and improvements. There was no need for a wheel for daily survival back then. But by exploring the possibilities the wheel carried, things that were never imagined before suddenly became possible. The wheel itself may have limited uses, but it's the opportunities that the wheel opened that changed the future of mankind. It has set the course for exploration and experimentation in search for concepts that may be proven usable only when discovered. It is the first great example of human engineering, and one of the most important inventions to date, thus it's creator is granted my kudos.
On the other hand, we might have been better off just in sync with nature and avoiding all unnecessary scientific exploration. In which case, the wheel doomed us. As a future engineer, such thought borders on sacrilege.
