so, 2012, they messed it up, the huge solar flare is happening in 2014 now, so ohhh welll! but, important thing bout 2012, the worlds poles switch, which have happend, i believe 12 times since the mayans, so if the world were to be ripped apart, uhm, that wouldda happened already.
Poles reverse every now and again. It has no real bearing on anything except the poor idiots who forgot people weren't born with wings.
Anyhow, planes will crash, and some other navigation crap. Nothing apocalyptic though.
Also, solar flare. Assuming we can see it coming (we could), all damage can be negated simply by turning off the power. That's right people, solar flares only work when your power in on. It'll probably blot out some of our magnetosphere, kind of like a short circuit, but all will be back to normal in a few years. Assuming those idiots turn of the power. If they don't, bye bye electrical equipment. In which case, yes, we would be sorely screwed. BUT, it shouldn't happen. Besides, the side facing away won't feel much. Maybe a few power outages, nothing lethal. Planes, once again, however, are SOL.
Now, if you haven't noticed, I don't exactly fall in line with 2012 or 2014 or any apocalypse theory.
I feel bad for the Mayans, since they mainly have nothing to do with the theory of 2012. A branch-off of the Mayans who follow the calender but have nothing to do with the Mayan culture decided that 2012 was when the end of the world would happen. The Mayans are simply treating 2012 as the end of a calender year.
They have discovered, that the Egyptian "calendar" ended in 2001, when those buldings were distroyed in America. So, egyptians were a bit right of the World's End. But of course, the World's end could end in any second.
In the Geo-magazine there was a thread, that said, that Earth is loosing air all the time! And in few TV-shows (nature shows/programs) there was something about "The World after men".
It ment something, that how would all the nature and other animals survive without humans.

The media always sensationalized everything, and the end of the human race is no exception. If we're loosing air all the time, it would have to be in very small doses, small enough for our bodies to adjust to the changing environment... Which is what is currently happening. It's science.

And that televisiob show I think you are talking about is Life After People. It deals with a hypothetical situtation: What would happen if humanity suddenly vanished without a trace? There is nothing there about 2012 conspiracies or apocalyptic catastrophes!
