I have been a fan of the Age of Empires series for a long time and Robot Entertainment (Mostly old Ensemble Studios staff) are releasing a new game next year.

So have a look, the Graphics and ideology of it seems a bit weird but it looks like it still could be good.

I agree. RTS > FPS. TBS is great too, but I mostly prefer RTS. I also like FPS games but in the end, I'm a strategy guy.

Gah, sorry mate you're right. For whatever reason I began calling it Battle for Neswoth (anagrams anybody?) and have never broken the habit since. It's been ages since I played it, but I've got the installer now, I'll take a shot at multiplayer.

No worries. The game has gotten some notable upgrades in the past two years I've followed it, but nothing world shattering. 1.4 to 1.8 is all I've seen.

My opinion on the FPS community is that you'll find some variety in people you meet. Especially with the older FPS games you find a lot of older vets playing them. FPS games aren't devoid of strategy (especially the squad based ones) but in the end, of course strategy games involve much more strategy.

I can't wait for AoE Online to be released! It reminds me of AoE I, AoE II and AoM. This is the first notable MMORTS game I've seen and quite frankly, I'm excited. I've seen a lot of hating due to the cartoony style but I think it's good to be original and that the graphics are refreshing. People have criticized without even playing the game. Jumping to conclusions.

AoE I, AoE II and AoM

Indeed! It seems to have the same 'texture' as the AoM farm, and my god do I hope they don't need reseeding!

Oh, and possibly no drop-off points like in AoEIII!
That'll be awesome.

Also AoM follows greatly off of AoEI, possessing many of the same units and follows a little bit of the philosiphy I first saw.
Axemen do 5 damage and 50 Health, Hoplites do about 17 damage and have 120 health, but also costs gold - a limited resource.
There are very little limited resources on AoEIII (which I enjoy greatly), but back then it was a huge difference! (actually wood is more valuble after a while. but it will be rarely required, except rebuilding, building and walls!)

I cannot wait, they learned alot throughout the series, and AoEIII, whilst changing things very greatly, has plenty of great new upgrades that I hope input into AoEO!

Probably will, it seems they've an entirely new engine for it.
Not entirely, but more fluid. However I greatly enjoyed map-making on AoEIII and AoM (I was map-making today, actually) and due to this being MMO style I am unsure if it will have it.
It will be very disappointing if it lacks a Scenario Editor.

Graphics engine? None of the other were cell-shaded as far as I know, so this in an interesting movement. I would love to see graphics similar to the newly released Elementals by Stardock, they look a tad better than what Age of Empires Online has.

Not exactly an MMO, or it shouldn't behave like an MMO. On most MMOs development is in the hands of the developer whereas on games where individuals in the community host servers mods can be added where and when you wanted them. It would be really odd if you were able to host your own server but no map editor or development kit.

I found AoEIII to be cell-shaded quite nicely. I am unsure about the level of color-grading through different weathers and shades, however.

Also this is supposed to be Cartoony, as an MMO it will have sinking graphics and must keep up through less expensive means (both short and long-term), cartoony graphics live longer naturally.

Says the person whom seen the Lego MMO where you make it all. And loved it?

Depends what game, I believe that map-making is pretty okay for AoEO, hosting competitions and betting materials for them, you first get a preview and then you can choose to accept it.
I don't know, just I hope they implement it. :P

Errrr. Age of Empires III doesn't look very cell-shaded to me. At the very least, the outline is extremely fine.

Lego Universe is a beautiful deviation, that's why I liked it. Normally extras in an MMO are created exclusively by the developer, any player who wants something added answers to them. Lego Universe includes that but simultaneously allows you to create your own miniature settings on top of that, it's an integrated development kit bolted onto your bog-standard kiddy MMO.

I'm not saying Age of Empires Online shouldn't have a development kit. If there are servers there should be, without a doubt, map making tools.

Mays well have it anyway.
Why not? Competitions for vanity fighting maps (not CAPITAL CITY MAPS, pun intended), arena warfare (however it wouldn't be as good as a Warcraft game due to lack of active abilities), or other fun things.

It would be aside from the multi-campaign, and other things familiar to that, but it would be quite nice to have a bit of a 'meh' time with Age of Empires, especially after it's been gone for ages (crap pun...) and has smoother graphics (says the Line of Sight )
