Well, people love power. People want power. The moderator position is seen as an attainable position of power. With it one has the power to moderate forums. It is believed that as a moderator people will respect or even love you.

If you would forgive me for shamelessly stroking my ego and describing how I am awesome, it has been my AG dream in order to become a mod. Ever since I came to the communities I wanted to be a mod. Not because of the pursuit of power or anything, but because I sincerely love AG and it's forums, and I want to make it a better place by getting rid of spam and helping illiterate young'uns.

Yeah......being a mod sucks. Notice how most of our mods have quit.

Don't go there, Skater, you have no proof that most have. Only a couple of the handful of mods retired.

i just wonder how much time i would have to waste out of the real world to become a mod, seems like one of those hollow victories, like "Yay, my social is non existent except for of course those people i don't know on the inter-web"

The same amount of time you waste coming on here and posting in the forums and playing games. There is no schedule or set amount of time you must be online, although moderators are typically chosen from the most active portion of the user base of a site.

I've been a mob at other forums in the past. It is mostly a thankless job. I did it because I wanted to help that community in that capacity, not because I wanted power or fame.

Would I accept being a mod here if it was offered to me? Sure, I'm rather active here and usually have the time to read through a number of posts. Would I be offered modship? I wouldn't be surprised if I'm on the bottom of the list.

I'm with you there Mage. It is a largely thankless job and often times, depending on the community of course, becoming a moderator can often lead one to actually lose interest in the community simply because it can take the enjoyment out of the site. I think AG has an overall great community presence, especially among the more veteran users, and it would be a fun site to assist with although I think I'm right below you on the list of people who would even be approached (I think we're too outspoken around here) which is actually fine by me.

Most people want recognition.. Just about everyone wants to actually help, but many also don't realise the magnitude of a moderator's responsibilities. It may be fun being a mod (or not) but it is sure as heck an onerous job.

Of course I'm giving my thoughts on why the typical user wants to be a mod. Moderators are mods because they are up to task and they want to help out.

Yeah, I have to agree with that Knight. The majority of the people who want to be mods either do not understand what it entails or simply are pining for recognition and position, and hence why they do not become moderators or if they do typically become poor ones.

I wouldn't want to be a mod, I'm not good with power xD
I'd just end up banning people with no good reasons, and not being bothered to check and delete spam..

I agree with knight, I can't really fathom what being a mod is since I never was, but I realize it must be anything but easy. And I seriously wouldn't want to be mod. I'd hate having responsibilities towards so many people I don't even know..

Should I quote this and invoke laughter? XD

Yeah, totally going to bandwagon with you there. Except.......People who are offered a choice to be a mod usually work to show it. I'm going to paraphrase Zophia and say " I haven't seen anyone else yet that screams 'this guy should be on the team!' " hahahahaha
