This bill will allow the government to remove any content that promotes downloading or sharing copyright material.

What is your opinion of this bill? Does it give the government too much power? How easily can this bill be abused?

I am still looking more into this bill and I do not have an opinion on it yet. So far, it looks like this bill will do nothing more than give the government and big businesses unfair advantages in the marketing world. It will also allow the government to censor any sites that promote piracy including ThePirateBay, despite the fact that there is no evidence that shows any negative correlation between illegal downloads and profit. Basically, these downloads are not harming big businesses.

Smaller bands and film makers who are using file sharing to promote their art will be hurt tremendously. File sharing will be heavily restricted. Maybe the government is trying to make unfair deals with big businesses?

What's even more important is that the government will be allowed to shut down sites that are protected by fair use policies. Who's to stop them? The government won't need a jury, the judges will make the choices on their own.

What is your opinion on the bill? Should we be concerned?

I would never pay for music, that's the only thing I download 'illegaly'... they get enough money, simply for living their dreams, why do they need more? Labourers and nurses should be paid more, not people who simply love what they do, and really, do nothing much at all.

I never pay for my music or video's either. Sure you should - I would never advocate theft. However, there are plenty of schmucks who pay over the odds for it, I'm balancing the scales.

Lol, nice middle ground there. I would say support the bands that matter to you. If someone wants to buy a justin beiber album thats fine. I think his music is not worth the time. Iv never seen, heard nor had an wish to find out more about most of the bands out there.

At what point did the public start believing that piracy of movies and music was actually "destroying" the industry as if the &quotirates" are evil fat old men who abuse children and mug old ladies at the same time as selling their "junk"!
Anyone seen those warnings saying "you wouldnt steal a car, you wouldnt steal a handbag" etc... Im sitting there thinking "thats someones personal property, music and film is not. I understand someone put time, effort and money into this but, as I said, I support those I care about. I dont support the super massive lables like Universal Vivendi etc They are of no help to stuggling artists like me who they cannot market to a mass audience. They dont care about any of you, they only want your money.

The &quotiracy is a crime" messages are extremely annoying and irritating. I know I wouldn't steal a handbag or a car or whatever. I didn't even "steal" the movie, I bought it legally, so I wonder why are they showing this? They think that if they show it to us hundreds of times we are going to become vigilantes and hunt down these vicious criminals? Why all these -useless- preaching?

They should go easier with the people who buy their movies. We buy their movies and they treat us as criminals.

Lastly breach of copyright usually is a civil wrong, whereas theft is a criminal one.

That's what most people do I think, just download all the music they like. and buy albums from the artists they think deserve it, or really their songs, kinda like a thank you xD

Some illegal movies are burnt from the original disc I think and put on torrent sites and stuff, so the people who torrent it see it that way, I think that's why they put it on the discs. It's really just a reminder, like the CCTV signs around shops, it's not, 'we're watching you, potential criminal' it's more in case there are criminals, that might be put off by the signs.

I think that should be fine. Like what radiohead and NIN did. They said, here, have this for free. People still ended up giving radiohead money. If I ever have enuf money I will happily pay them £100 for that one album "in rainbows" because it moved me and affected my life. Also I know the money would go to them personally, and not some darn record label.
