I watched THIS video on FB the other night with Stephen Fry giving his reasoning as to why the catholic church is not a force for good. I agree with everything he says and openly challenge anyone to find fault in his reasoning.
Im not only putting this here as a challenge, its here so people can see it, so people might start to think past that which they blindly worship and so people can perhaps learn from this. Please only comment after having seen the whole video. I will watch the other speakers asap but I have washing to do
Considering the vast fortune that the Vatican is sitting on while people around the world starve through no fault of their own - combined with the awesomeness of Stephen Fry - It's obvious that the catholic church is a force, but not for good.
Oh and while I'm looking at the image and LOL'ing all over again (it never fails):
That the church does not offer its moralizing with entirely clean hands is obvious to everyone capable of critical thought. Among the morally repugnant activities of its clergy have been the psychological, physical and sexual abuse of persons in its custody. The Magdalene laundries scandal is well known in Ireland. Pedophilia and pederasty are not the sole preserve of the Irish Roman Catholic Church, with allegations emerging in other countries, including the United States, Canada and Germany.
Inevitably, the clerical hierarchy defended its corporate interests by reference to struggle between unseen forces. According to Father Gabriele Amorth, none other than Satan is behind the criticism: "There is no doubt about it. Because he is a marvelous Pope and worthy successor to John Paul II, it is clear that the devil wants to âgrab holdâ of him." What is more, Satan makes use of priests to delegitimize the entire Church: "The devil wants the death of the Church because she is the mother of all the saints." Thus in Fr. Amorth's moral universe the church is never ultimately responsible for the actions of its agents. One obvious question to ask is "why should any thinking person accept moral instruction from people with such retarded moral sensibilities?"
As further evidence of the hierarchy's obtuseness, the Vatican issued revised internal church rules on July 15, 2010 that declared both child sexual abuse and the ordination of women to be "grave moral defects.".
Yes yes yes. Mr. Fry is correct times a billion. However, I would like to say that the Church fleeces its members, not necessarily that the members of the church are evil...just gullible xP. I <3 Mage's Pope Palpatine image.
I make the same argument over and over again it seems...
The Church isn't entirely negative. You must accept the evil that comes with the good.
With zealotry and perversion, there is the charitable and the forgiving. There are many bad priests out there, but there are many who genuinely want to do good in the world.
Bahh, if something is corrupted then you rid yourself of it. If you bite into a half-rotten apple then would you not throw it away? If a file on your computer is corrupted - do you not replace or remove it? The Catholic church is too deeply infected and like a boil on the back of the world - it needs to be lanced (Metaphorically and perhaps physically).

This is true, as I said. Not all subscribers to the religion or leaders of the religion are bad, some genuinely believe and wish to do good. Mother Teresa comes to mind.
I agree with what you just wrote, Hyper. There are many facets of Catholic Church and many, many followers. I would not doom everyone and everything tied to it.
Though, personally, I do not agree with their teachings and methods of handling such things as the sexual abuse scandals.
So, in short conclusion, I would do not know (until someone can show me differently) how the Catholic church has any major benefit to society with their teachings, organizations, and especially with all the sex scandals.
