This question is meant to answer regarding life as a whole. What is more important to posses from those around you. Loyalty or trust? Are these the exact same things? In my opinion, they are not the same thing. This may sounds crazy to some, however, I believe Loyalty is more important than trust. Loyal people will not only be by your side, it will be someone you can trust. This could even mean people going out of their way when you are in times of need. Someone you just trust is different. You can tell someone you trust a deep secret, or talk about problems. This is just my opinion of course and I am curious to what others value more..... Loyalty or Trust?
I've always considered Loyalty to be superior to trust. Loyalty suggests Trust exists between people AND on top of that that they will be there alongside you.
I wanna talk about Loyalty vs. Trust in a faction type of way. Many members are often lectured about being loyal to your faction--doing the jobs it requires, be a guide for people when needed, and above all else, respect the higher-ups, especially the faction leader. It is not until the person is regarded as a higher up, where he or she gains higher responsibilities and privileges, that the superiors ask for their trust during the extreme parts of the faction, such as diplomacy, war, and factional security.

Hmm, perhaps I could add that Loyalty usually includes actively trusting other people rather than that bond merely existing? You can trust your friends but not loyally follow them but you can't be loyal to someone without actively trusting them - you may do what they tell you but not out of loyalty (usually out of fear if applied to a battlefield situation)
Though it's not far off to say that these faction members have both trust AND loyalty to them. The only thing I see now are the members of the armed forces. Do they have loyalty? Or both loyalty and trust of the higher-ups that what they are doing is right? Where is the cut off point?
I too value trust more than loyalty. My previous job wanted my loyalty without giving any back and did not care for my trust. My friends will be there for me if they trust me, I do not want lapdogs, I want peoples hearts and minds to be filled with trust for me because they want to, not to be loyal because it suits them. Loyalty can change, trust usually does not unless I do something to break it.
Seems like everyone has different views on what each word means. I don't think think that Trust is mutual. Think about con artists, people trust them, but they are being tricked.
I think there is a level of trust in establishing loyalty - but there are other factors that can motivate loyalty as well as or instead of trust.
Well now that I think about it loyalty and trust are very different to me, you can trust someone to be there for you in times of need but someone who is loyal you won't need to think about they will just be there for you, someone who is in the shadows waiting for you so i would have to say that loyalty is far greater then trust.

Agreed. It also depends on context. Trusting a con artist is not my idea of trust, its being tricked into trust. Being loyal to a company is good if the company is both loyal and trusting of you, otherwise you may as well work for the con artist.
Trust. If you want loyalty buy a dog xD To me loyalty seems like ownership, and only on one side of the fence, they're loyal but you're not, or the other way round, both people trust each other in trust, usually..
