Are you a vegetarian or do you eat meat, and why? I'm a vegetarian because I believe slaughtering animals is wrong and that meat is unnecessary for humans. You can disagree with me, as long as you actually have something interesting to say. For example, don't say something dumb like "meat tastes good".
I know, that human aren't carnivores, and maybe vegetarism isn't as bad as the people say (of course I eat meat), but I think veganism is completely overatracted.
I have no problem with eating the meat of stupid animals like deer and cow; they are meant to be prey. I have no sympathy for an animal so stupid that it freezes up when you shine a light in its face. I won't, however, eat anything intelligent like dog or lion (yes, I once read an article on a restaurant that served lion steaks).

Interesting you should say that, because recently we've been looking more into the level of intelligence displayed by herd animals, such as deer and cattle. Perhaps you should read this article before you go calling them stupid.

Okay, so they can get excited. And again, i don't care what research shows; if an animal freezes because you shine a light in their face, they clearly aren't worth losing a good meal over. I am hesitant about eating pork however, because i heard that pigs are very intelligent.

During the making of the B movie Evil Aliens they left a dead cow prop out in the field they were filming in. The next day a couple cows had surrounded the prop and were circling it making sounds clearly indicating stress.
Cows have been known to seek shelter in the barn before it starts raining.
When cows were around here the pen door was once left open aand the cows were getting out. one cow hung back calling to the rest of the heard to come back.
bulls (male cows) have been used to perform tasks on farms such as pulling carts. They have been able to be taught up to around 6 tasks. Though dairy and meat cows tend to lack such a level of ability.
So they really aren't just mindless creatures. Determining there intelligence is really a matter of relativity in this case.

Good points, but i am unwilling to give up meat. So long as the animals are killed painlessly, i don't mind too much (just a little twinge of guilt). Incidentally, are you a vegetarian?

It's not only indicative of their getting excited. The excitement shows that they are not only learning new tasks, but exhibit behavior which indicates that not only are they aware of their learning, but are actually excited about it, just like we are when we finally get a concept we've been struggling with. This is indicative of intentional comprehension and understanding.
And about your whole 'shining light in their eyes' thing, that isn't stupidity, it's an evolutionary defense mechanism. They hold perfectly still because many nocturnal predators are more sensitive to movement than they are to color differentials in the environment. Deer evolved to evade wolves and similar predators with limited color recognition and heightened motion awareness, not humans who are better at picking out subtle color variations in the environment.

They are still prey, and i shall treat them as such.
Seriously though, there isn't a creature on this planet that isn't prey. So do you eat everything? And if not, why?
It all depends on your view of predator and prey and the food chain. And i do eat almost anything, having tried stuff like frog and shark before. As long as its tasty and not too intelligent (some humans don't count XD) i will eat it.
Then, may I ask, how you would define "too intelligent"? You have already shown a lack of understanding of intelligence in other animals by stating that deer are stupid because they freeze when spotted with a light. That's why I ask for what you would classify as 'too intelligent', and not just as what animals are too intelligent, but what behavior would make you think of an animal too intelligent to eat.

An animal that can solve problems, learn and obey commands, and aren't dominated by pure instinct such as the deer are in the (now overused) example with the flashlight. What i mean about the instinct part is that instict will overrride reason in an unintelligent animal and cause stupid actions like freezing.

That describes... ummm... no animal on the planet, including humans. So by this description, every living thing is dumb enough to eat. Gotcha.

Again, this happens in every animal on the planet, even in humans. So by your definition here, even we humans are unintelligent animals.
