No, rick073, I don't get it. Sure, that was one theory, but there are others relating to scientific reasoning. Open the debate with that instead, mostly due to the fact that it's more open for discussion than some Mayan calendar argument.
How many threads have there been about 2012? Tons! Do people care to read them? No...
Ok, 2012 is not the end. Maybe some of our electronics will roast after a specially strong solar wave, but that's all. The sun goes through various cycles regularly, and everyone that's older than 11 years has experienced at least one activity peak. The time roughly around 2012 is just a time when two cycles come together (meaning quite high activity). Have there been any catastrophes occuring periodically every 22 years? No. This time won't be different, with the exception that by chance the Mayan calender ends about in that period. Whohoo.
It is highly unlikely the world will end in 2012. In the past people have said the world will end, and since then they all were wrong. It is just another thing to send the people into mass hysteria and it will be pointless. The world will not end in 2012, but people who think it will shall cause havoc. They might raid stores and stuff like that since they believe they will not get into, since the world will be at the break of destruction. Who actually thinks the world will end, besides extremest?
How about you people just wait and don't argue about it, what's the point in arguing just wait till 2012 then we'll see what happens(there is no reason to fight about it)
The Mayans were smart but I know the world won't end in 2012. What brought this whole discussion up was because of the movie. Before the movie no one even knew about 2012.
you guys are arguing if the world will be destroyed in 2012??!!? you guys are retarded!
If you had actually read through the thread(which only has two pages) you would find that pretty much everyone says that they will be laughing/they don't think it will happen/etc.
some mod PLEASE lock this thread.
Why would this thread be locked? It's a legitimate topic.
(oh and by the way for the seriously dumb people i do NOT think the world will end in 2012)
Christ, think you've got enough insults on this egomania cake or what? Seriously man. That was uncalled for.
This is a ancient civilization we are talking about. Yes they may have have been smart in science in all, but i don't think it's possible for a group of people to predict 1000's of years later. Plus what did the rest of the calender say? How do you really know it was even made by a trivialization in the first place? Did they mention how? Well today there are many theories about how this would happen Armageddon, Aliens, Sun blowing up, major solar flare, are planet its self collapsing, core failure causing major natural disasters. So really they must have known how? How do you know you are reading the calender correctly? They may have listed a whole different year in the future. They could have had a different day/week/month/year system. They year could have been triple the length of ours for all we know, thus tripling the amount of this date anyways. So really this isn't going to happen. Every thing we know goes against it.
I'm tired of hearing this. The Mayan calendar does not end in 2012. It is merely the largest of cycles that ends. People who say the Mayans predicted the world would end in 2012 can't read. All the Mayans said was that some large catastrophe would happen, but that humanity would survive.
