There has been a lot of argument on 2012, and I just wanna ask this:
Who thinks the world will end in 2012?

I think we need to know what the world ending really is. It could be the earth exploding or that our universe is disappearing, or reality itself ceases to exist.

Everyone thought the world was going to end in 2000, as well, so I don't think it's gonna happen now.

All the Mayans said was that some large catastrophe would happen, but that humanity would survive.

Could also be something reveled that changes the world forever. (word misuse likely)

2012 is for people who believe in leprechauns. The mayan calender probably weared down a bit from over 500 years of existence. The "expert" who started this hype is the biggest nut since Mr.Peanut.

The Mayan calendar never ends, it is made up of many cycles that repeat infinitely.

As for Y2K I don't exactly know what that has to do with this because it was just computers bugging due to the year only having two digits before the new millinum. Meaning on year 1999 the computers read it as 99 and when it hit year 2000 the computers all reset and the computers all around the world bugged.

People thought the computers would freak out and launch missiles and send out armies if I remember correctly.

According to the movie 2012 (just using this as an example) the sun was having extremely large solar flares so scientists were getting skittish and started to believe that the end of the world was going to come. So I'm going to assume that most people believe that solar flares are going to cause catastrophes or the sun will go super nova (for whatever reason) If you know anything about science you'd know that stars can last for about a couple billion years depending on their size. Since our sun is small it'd be lasting for a quite a long time. Scientists predict that our sun still has several million years before it starts to expand up to about twice to triple it's size now. Earth will probably be the equivalent of Mercury once the sun gets that close but people could probably live underground where it's still cool with plants that need little sunlight so there's still oxygen. After maybe a million years or so it'll go back to normal size and use its remaining hydrogen or whatever the sun runs on. Once it starts to use its hydrogen the sun still has a few million years on its lifetime. So, that means we're nowhere near the end of the world unless a bunch of other things start going out of control such as humans destroying all plant-life or something stupid like that

BIG WORDS THEY HURT!!!! Well on a more serious matter from what I have read your basically talking about the sun going through the red giant phase. But from the movie they were talking about the sun not the mayan calender. On the History channel they said earth has a pretty long time before the sun expands so that means we could probably be able to pull earth away from the sun with the advanced technology.

simply put if u believe in it or not it is up to u... if u do then live ur life while u can if u cling to life then cherrish every bit now but either way there r problems to face today and tomorrow and everyday afterwards, whether the world ends then or not it will like us END eventually, everyday u live now can be the last does potentially knowing the exact day make a difference? we as humans will die regardless like me learn to cope with it, "know your past, plan for the future, but live in the NOW"

I don't really think that pulling the earth away from the sun would be necessary, but we could travel to another planet considering that we already have planets that are extremely close to the size of earth and seem like they have water. I say we'd be able to do such feats like this in less than a thousand years considering we already found out how to travel forward in time.

You mean go to Mars or Venus?Tell me how will we get the right amount of oxygen and food. How will we grow plantlife if Mars has nothing but dust and the Red Rover and Venus has god knows what. Also tell me what you mean by we already found how to travel forward in time.Do you mean in the future or right now?

p.s. the story behind y2k is not only missiles launching but bank accounts reseting leaving everyone broke, thusk (amongst the survivors) causing civil wars for wat money and resources r left. p.p.s. ive made several other quotes

how do we know that 2012 isn't just a plot to get us to spend all our money? Atleast some of us actually believe that it's going to happen and there's no point keeping your money if your going to die.
