So late last night a thought occured to me about the english language.I thought about the many words we are losing because almost every freaking person I see thinks about sex when someone says a perfectly normal word. For example balls is a word mistaken for something else. Why else do you think we are losing english words?

It's man's slow decline into sin. Man's character becomes lower as we go along, and being preoccupied with thoughts like that are the side effects.

What? It's slang and jargon. By your logic, I can also translate &quotlaymate" into another meaning. I thought you meant by "losing", you mean no longer using these words and they have been forgotten.

The human race has become more perverted over the years. That's why you just have to stop being perverted to stop the perversion.

I don't think we are losing any words. The immature ones are just translating the words into different meanings.

Exactly my point. Simply put, the world is full of immature fools.

Not only are people using common words as slang terms for inappropriate things, but as a society we have become so overly concerned with preventing people from being offended that the spectrum of potentially offensive words is broadening.

Walker is right. And, of course, as we seek different euphemisms and catchwords for these things so that we don't offend anyone - we increase the spectrum again as those words become potentially offensive.

Well I guess you could say that. But where I live right now the people there completely changed the words. Its like if you say a "changed" word once people will look at you funny or laugh at what you said. But thats my perverted community.

Well in some cases the words would be creating a double entendre. but, double entendres are done on purpose. A vague example is like when you say one thing that could be taken as an appropriate sentence but on further inspection sounds also.

Not only are people using common words as slang terms for inappropriate things, but as a society we have become so overly concerned with preventing people from being offended that the spectrum of potentially offensive words is broadening.

I agree, but it seems to be only certain words. Some swear words seem to be becoming less censored.

I could be wrong but I remember a time when you couldn't say b**** and a** on T.V.

i don't see how we are really "losing" the word balls. its just that some kids who are immature think "BALLS ahahahahahahahahahaha" its not lost, adults don't do that, adults and mature kids use it just fine

I don't have much concern to be honest. Judging from the title, I thought this would be a criticism of text speak, not slang and more about the ever changing nature of language.

We've had profanity, double entrendres, and sexual humour for a long time haven't we? I guess you find yourself more often associated with people who have colourful vocabularies. Not everyone constantly makes inappropriately immature jokes.

Oh, and don't forget the fascination with sex.

I am not sure if the english language really looses words.
We've recently learned that english gets about 25,000 new words every year. Thus it will never stay forever. So why does the english language loose words just because we think of something naughty if someone says "balls" ?
Do you mean that one word becomes a synonym for many words, and therefore less words are used ?
For example: "I play with my balls."
Can mean that you have a few balls and you play with them,
or you play around with your nuts.
But the verdict is that english will not loose any words just because of naughty thoughts.
