Here's a couple I know off of hand.
1.Hitler was from Austria, and Stalin was from Georgia,(on a side note Alexander the Great was from Macedonia). Some of the greatest leaders in the world were not even from the country in which they governed.
2.The Nazi's developed the first operational jet fighters, the first anti air missiles, and the first ballistic missile,(V-2 rockets)
3.In addition to the before mentioned facts,Nazi scientists who were part of the missile campaign in the Luftwaffe were smuggled into the United States in post war years into the NASA program, and developed the Saturn IV rocket.
4.The United States new about the attack on Pearl Harbor by means of a decoding machine. President Roosevelt didn't notify the military staff stationed in Pearl Harbor because he wanted to have a reason to declare war not only on Japan, but it's ally Nazi Germany. He decided to finally notify Pearl Harbor and it's military factions, but the message did not arrive in time.
5.The Soviet Union admitted in the early 1980's that they had recovered and preserved Hitler's body. They later destroyed Hitler's body along with other captured corpses by means of cremation in fear of it falling into the wrong hands. None of this can be proven, but several sources indicate that several parts of Hitler's body are in storage in present Russia including parts of his head and jaw.
6.The atomic bomb was assembled rather quickly in the nervous anticipation that Nazi scientists were close to finding a similar solution, when in fact the Nazi scientists were years behind in the research already discovered by the American team.
7.The Soviet Union lost more people collectively than all of the other countries and the Holocaust put together. The Red Army lost approximately 10.7 million troops, and 14.5 million civilians, which comes to about 14% of their total population. It can easily be argued that the Russian people were the true victims of the second world war, but their main enemy was actually their "great" leader, Stalin, who can be blamed for most of their deaths. With his national decree "Not one step backwards.", countless Red army Soldiers were shot by their own ranks if they hesitated or retreated. It is recorded that over 40 million people in total died under the iron fist that was Joseph Stalin unto his death in 1953.
8.The German soldiers who performed the Blitzkrieg received their experience in the Spanish Civil War.
9.It is speculated that if Operation Valkyrie had been a success, (conspiracy plot to kill Hitler) Hitler's regime would have sustained under Hitler's right hand man, Hermann Goering, and would have continued as usual.
10.The two hand grip employed by all police officers and military personnel was invented by the SOE, or Special Operations Executive, a British spy organization later adapted for the United States, and a forerunner for the CIA,(Central Intelligence Agency).
11.The firestorms created by allied bombing on the nonindustrial city German city of Dresden - often referred to as the Dresden Holocaust - created more civilian death and casualties than Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined; well over 300,000 dead. This atrocity sparks a heated debate (pun intended) about whether it was or was not a war crime on the United States part.
12.More allied cargo was landed on the artificial Mulberry docks in the week following the D-Day invasion than on all of the "real" allied ports/harbors in the entire war.
13.To end on a fun note, on lucky number 13: SPAM, (that "tasty" stuff that never seems to go bad) officially stands for Southern Pacific Army Meat. It was used extensively in the Pacific Theater for it's ability to adapt to the hot climate and retain it's freshness.

...I sure write a lot don't I? Sorry for that. This is my strongest history topic.

Actually, the genetic elimination people with bad genes was not such a bad idea, but since it was Hitler it is know politically incorrect.

sorry, but is there any evidence that jews, roma and sinti, and his political opponents have bad genes?

modern humanity is bringing himself down by keeping the weak alive by modern medicine and theraphy. but I don't complain. I am an authist. my sister has dislexia. I'm glad that I am not considered an idiot, just because I take things literally, and my sister is not considered dumb because her troubles with spelling.

For the record a thesis is an idea.

Moving on. This thread is about WWII yes? I see a lot of talk about Hitler and Germany, but that seems to be all the knowledge most Westerners have of WWII. Many people forget Russia (fun fact Russia doesn't even teach their students about other allied contirbutions in WWII), and more importantly Japan and China. Just so you all know China was considered an allied power and WWII (unoficially by western standards) began during Japan's invation of China and the subsequent slaughter. The Japanese army was perhaps the most lethal army during WWII if we consider training and ability to fight. The Russians sent one of their best armies to their eastern front, not to attack the Japanese 1st Army (not at first) but to discourage the Japanese from attacking. Furthermore out of all the battles Japan fought in WWII only 3 can be concluded as desisive losses against the Chinese.

time to prove you wrong. hence my name

AND no, it doesn't mean i like the holocaust.

did you know russia and germany were 'allies' at the start of WWII? Did you know that the P-51 Mustang has 6 50. cal browning maching guns, and used a merlin engine? Did you know albert Einstein worked on the atomic bomb? I can tell you just about anything. All fronts, everything. Mostly about planes and aerial warfare, but i can tell you tons about ground battle.

I said most, not all. And Einstien did not directly work on the atomic bomb. So, since you're looking to impress me tell me about the early battles between Japan and China.

Only one POW was captured during the Kiska/JANFU Operations: A Japanese-owned German Shepherd, who was quite happy to convert.

The Manhattan Project took place largely in Chicago.

They had a non-aggression pact. That hardly makes them allies. Stalin knew that a war with Nazi Germany was going to happen, but he signed the treaty to prolong the inevitable.
I have a link for this.

Did you know albert Einstein worked on the atomic bomb?

No, he didn't. He came up with the equation e = mc^2, which was applied in the making of the atomic bombs, but he never directly worked on the atomic bombs, never intended his formula to be used for atomic bombs, and he hated the bombs altogether.
I have a link for this as well.

The insignia of United States' 45th Infantry Division, one of the divisions that liberated Dachau, was originally a swastika, but they changed it after the Nazis began to gain power.

The youngest United States soldier in the war was Calvin Graham, who was twelve years old when he joined the U.S. Navy.

How about this: Did you know that despite being allied with Hitler, Benito Mussolini and the Italians disliked him? In fact, Mussolini tried to prevent the nazis from taking Austria, but when other major powers approved of Hitler taking Austria, he backed off. I believe he only allied himself with Hitler to prevent Italy from being taken over.

Mussolini didn't like anybody, and frankly no one like him. The alliance was born out of convience and political ideology. You have to remember Italy basically gave up once allied forces got to about Rome. he Hitler had to send elite German divisions to try and hold the line.

Which may be a reason why Germany fell, as they had to move those divisions away from more important fronts.

Somewhat. However they also produced weapons and materials at a slower rate. However, they were of a better quality. Allied forces produced cheap things but they produced more.

You need to produce things in bulk for a war. Its no good to have good quality if you don't have enough.

I know the great-grandson of the man whom developed the tailfin design of the nukes. The nukes detonated at 1000 (meters or feet, don't remember) to maximize the radius of the kill-zone. There was a third bomb being shipped to be activated for another attack when Japan surrendered. We are still paying Japan for nuclear radiation on an atoll we won and used as a testing ground for water-born nukes. Water-born nukes were a complete failure. Italy was the only country to change sides between WWI and WWII (Russia dropped out of WWI before the end due to the Bolshevic Revolution {rise of Communism}). The raising of the flag on Mnt. Suribachi happened long before the battle was over. There was a sixth person raising the flag that was not generally acknowledged. Three died in the battle and the other three were given desk jobs for there heroism. One survivor drunk himself to death. The mother of one of the soldiers knew it was her son when she saw the pictures and the government denied the statement. The three survivors later confirmed her claim.

Just a comment.

WW2 history is one of my favorite research topics.
So must 'history', drama. People. Places. Things.
There's a reason there are so many games on it. There's a lot of room for stories.
