Lately, I have found a lot of annoying users who I and many others think should be removed from this site, so my suggestion is to put a report button on everyone's profile page so we can report the losers of AG and make this a better site! This site would be near-perfect if it weren't for some of the people on it! Please tell me what you think of my idea, including you, the normal everyday user. Thanks!
Or you can report them to any moderator! They will definitely look into the problem and get it solved, so long as you provide the user and the reason (evidence) why you think he/she needs to be reported. It can be for any reason, really, so long as it is against the T&C.
Generally, mods and admins will ask you to resolve something between yourselves if someone's just being a pest. If you ask another user to stop contacting you on your profile page, and they continue to do so, then we can take action.
You can also delete comments left on your profile page, but I'm probably the best bet as far as the admin team goes at tracking down user behavior and decide whether someone needs discipline. Justin is quick to perma-ban users for excessive swearing, or link-spam, or lots of jibberish comments, but he generally only deals with flagged comments.
As mrtim said, if you see someone leave a single "spammy" message, or something else against our Terms and Conditions like strong racial hatred, excessive swearing, or swearing which is misspelled or otherwise purposefully getting around our profanity filters, just flag it.
Just like in real life, where citizens *can* make a "citizen's arrest", your average police officer will tell you to stay out of it, and just report it, and so will moderators and administrators here on the site. If you confront a user about spam or messages they're leaving, we might see YOUR behavior as meddling or harassing, and we have to hold you to the same rules as the user who started it, and now you're BOTH in trouble.
So, when in doubt, just flag the comment, and ignore the person if trying to resolve things peacefully doesn't work. If they harass you on your profile, flag their comments and report them to a moderator, or me. One of the WORST things to do is reply to them, or give them any kind of direct attention. And for heaven's sake, don't reply to their messages saying something like "I'm gonna get you banned" because THAT is considered harassing behavior on YOUR part, and we also need do hand out some discipline in your direction, too.
The moderators will be quick to tell you that I'm not afraid to swing my ban-hammer at a user. Moderators can hand out temporary bans up to 14 days, but only admins can perma-ban users if a temporary ban doesn't fit the crime (or if they've had too many temporary bans in the past).
