As I drummer this is one of the main things I ever think about. I want to know who other drummers or people think is the best drummer. Please do not just say a name please say why you think this person is the best of the best.

Here is my list:
It is in no specific order
1. Keith Moon - The Who
This guy plays the drums as an instrument not a time keeper
2. Buddy Rich
He paved the road for drummers
3. Tre Cool - Green Day
This guys is my idol. He has so much energy and flies in the drums.

You can comment on other peoples favorite drummers but keep the feedback positive.

I have to agree with your list. My list was mostly an example/best/favorite drummers. But I have to agree that they are some of the best of the best. I btw have been playing drums for 1 year and percussion for 5 years.

Wow haha Gene Hoglan is far from great he may be your favorite drummer but delossantosj is right. The best people are people that have left a mark on the drumming society. You can say their name and the first think you think of is "great drummer" the first thing I think of when I hear gene hoglan is who is that?

Here are my top three, in no particular order. Keep in mind this is based on technical skill alone, not on how much I like their style.

1. Neil Pert(Rush)
2. Chad Smith(Red Hot Chili Peppers)
3. Mike Portnoy(Dream Theater)

There's a few drummers that I really like, no order, because I suck at making lists, although Neil Peart will be the best:

-Neil Peart (RUSH)
-Dave Lombardo (Slayer)
-Carl Palmer (ELP)
-Chad Smith (RHCP)
-Lars Ulrich (Metallica)
-Chris Adler (Lamb of God)
-John Bonham (Led Zeppelin)
-Keith Moon (The Who)
-Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater)
-Ringo Starr (I think everyone knows what band he was in)
-Danny Carrey (Tool)
-Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix)
-Ginger Baker (Cream)

I could probably name a lot more, but those are the ones that I can remember. I don't stalk drummers, but I do LOVE Dave Lombardo and Chad Smith, a lot.

I have no room to comment on who's the best, I'm no Drummer, but here's my favorites

1.Keith Moon (The Who) - His beats just flow so nicely, and I don't about, but I can't help but air drumming when I hear his intro on Baba O'Riley.

2.John Bonham (Led Zeppelin) - 'Cause I'm huge Led Hed, and he's pretty Dam good, err, was. R.I.P

3.Scott Raynor (Blink 182) - I know, I know. I have all these legends, and Pow! Blink 182? I just like his sound and his beats are pretty good.

That's my top three, now comment on the rest....

4.Neil Pert - It takes talent to play kit that big, but I've never been much of Rush fan, Which is the sole reason he's not on top 3

5.Phil Collins - Jus' he's Phil Collins

Now I'm Jus' Commenting.

Mitch Mitchell

Really? That's his name? Never knew sense he was kinda overshadowed by Jimi, but yeah, awesome name. =P
