Woo-hoo! I found diamond! Hell yeah!


That's...nice? Diamond isn't all -that- rare, it's just the most rare. There's still more than enough of it to do basically whatever you want with diamond except line rooms with blocks of it.

I cleared the lava lake out, mined everywhere around the diamond, and mined it. 6 DIAMOND!


Dirt overhang + gravel into lava = sealed area, dig out the inside of the sealed off area and yay, no diamond falls into lava.

I know, I'm boss.


On average when I go on a mining trip I find around 15-20 ores of it before I return.

The new Pocket Edition update was a good one, but survival is still pointless without tree saplings...

Nope, Lapis Lazuli technically is the most rare ore. However, diamonds are rarer because they drop one per ore, while Lapis drops 4-8.

But yup, in terms of appearance, Lapis Lazuli is more rare than diamond.
What is the exact spawn ratio of Diamond vs Lapis Lazuli?

Where are you getting this? I find Lapis 4-5 times more than I find Diamond.

In my experience the order of most common to least of ores is this:

Coal
Iron
Redstone
Gold
Lapis
Diamond

Lapis lazuli makes up .083% of all blocks between levels 13 and 16, and that number drops a lot as you go down farther. Diamond makes up .0846% of all blocks between levels 2 and 16. So diamond has a higher spawn chance and a larger spawn area. Lapis lazuli ore is rarer than diamond ore, but lapis lazuli dye is 1.1 times more commen than diamonds.

Its pretty amazing how this game became so popular.When it was in early alpha everbody was sceptic about it and its graphics.But now MC is really popular among all kinds of gamers.

Well, all I have to say is I have been recently making a 3x3 tunnel across chunks in an attempt to find a chunk that spawns slimes, and I have found 6 diamond ores and over 10 lapis ones. The tunnel is at 13-16, which means I am able to see 12-17. Perhaps I'm just unlucky, but I don't really trust the lapis percentages.

I'm not sure it's really debatable. You can decompile the files and see what their spawn rates are set to.

Has anybody else been participating in You Are Minecraft? I built my skin today (it's pretty crappy, I made it a year and a half ago).

If that's where the percentages come from then I suppose I have to trust them. All I know is I have around 6-7x the amount of lapis in my chests (yes I know it multi drops) and I only mine diamond with my fortune 3 pick, and I don't even mine all the lapis I find.
