To start off, what's your favorite board game (any game including games that aren't exactly "board" games)? If it's really unique, just write a little about.
I like to play Monopoly. That's about the only board game that I've always liked and played. I play it because it's fun and a long game. Especially when you play it with four other people.
Chess and Checkers also. I like playing chess and always have because it requires some brains to defeat your opponent. Checkers doesn't really require any of that. I just play that for fun.
Risk and chess are fun. Most people don't like to play them though. Risk doesn't take too long and can be more fun in larger groups. Chess doesn't take too long either and it has lots of strategy involved compared to even Risk it self.
One problem with Risk is that it can really just become a game of chance with all the dice rolls.

I have never played risk. I think I have once with knight, but I didn't like it that much. It was boring with just him, me and RayOfLight playing. So I just quit it.
Chess though is one of my all time favorites. I started playing it when I was about six and still do to this day. If it's on the computer against other players or in real life. I love the game.

o: Every game that I play is a decent half and hour to an hour. . that's pretty long for me.
There's this one old game called Rebound that my dad played when he was a kid. What you do is roll the ball and rebound it against the rubber band and try stop in the zone closest to the pit at the end without falling or getting knocked in.

Last time I played with a real Risk board, the game lasted several hours. To make it short, I held on long enough to drag the game on and when defeat was certain, I stalled repetitively. We ran out of game board pieces sometime after that, but I was defeated nonetheless.
Chess has always been a classic for me. I like it because, as a few others have said, it requires skill and strategy to win. I'm not much of a strategy game person, but Chess deserves a spot for me.
I've also used to play Trouble with my mom. I liked it because it was simple and straightforward.
Monopoly, well, its fun and all, its just that I usually don't have 4-5 other people who want to play such a long game. It's probably been years. I wish I can play it again.....
I generally like Board Games that require logic and a great deal of strategy. I love sugoroku and monopoly. Oh, and games of the generals, a game introduced by my cousin.
