Well, I was searching to see if this was already made, but the searches didn't show a thread with my idea so here it is. I am making this thread so we can have a typical tavern discussion thread for all things science! Basically, a thread for everything science! Ranging from discussions about laws and theories, scientific debate, breakthroughs, discussion about new scientific breakthroughs, certain scientists/philosophers, and all that good stuff!
So go out there and let out your inner science! ;P
To get us going somewhere I'll start: what do you think the future holds for technology? I think our knowledge will allow us to overcome the obstacles thrown at us in the future, I mean, we have discovered so much and have come so far!

I thought dark matter was a different classification of matter, not just matter we can't see from here. If it is as the latter states, then I rescind my prior statement.

Like I said it could be exotic particles such as axions or WIMPs (Weakly Interacting Massive Particles). WIMPs being subatomic particles not made up of ordinary matter. Though it could also be MACHOs (Massive Compact Halo Objects), which are objects ranging in size from small stars to super massive black holes.
Finally it could be a combination of both. Personally that sounds the most likely to me.

The current consensus leans towards WIMPs.

This explains the pros and cons of each theory.

I havent read all of the posts yet, but i would like to make an inquiry. If a black hole is the absence of all matter, and has a gravitational pull strong enough to suck existing matter into it, what happens to that matter? There is a theory stating that matter can be neither created nor destroyed. If that is true, then a black hole would contain a whole bunch of matter, but then that would invalidate the definition of a black hole. I asked my science teacher and she told me to ask an astrologist, but I dont know how to find one.

If a black hole is the absence of all matter

Simple it's not the absence of matter, it's a super dense mass creating a deformity in spacetime.

thanks. my teacher has been known to teach false information, confusing mass with weight, and density with volume, so im not surprised she messed that up.

If you ever need another science question answered, feel free to ask.

So dark matter is just unidentified matter that we can't directly observe that could be attributed to several possible sources.
Is dark matter present here?

Would anyone like to explain to me what cystic fibrosis is? My best friend's grandmother just got diagnosed with it.

I suppose that depends on what it turns out to be exactly.

Would anyone like to explain to me what cystic fibrosis is?

It's a genetic disease that causes thick, sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive tract.

For more information.

Which of the suspected particles are present here?

This is becoming a pretty good thread for helping people.

Hey here is a relatively novel idea, molecular nanotechnology with the application of nanochemicals and nanosensors

What exactly would a nanochemical be?

So it is the synthesis of specialized chemicals via nanotechnology. Quite a novel idea indeed.

Nanochemistry is being looked into to create a fuel source.

Science includes biology which covers DNA RNA and many other processes and cell production and other topics. I personally enjoy learning biology

Interesting. Think that it will ever become a cost effective source of fuel?

Feel free to bring up anything you wish on the topic of Biology.
