Well, I was searching to see if this was already made, but the searches didn't show a thread with my idea so here it is. I am making this thread so we can have a typical tavern discussion thread for all things science! Basically, a thread for everything science! Ranging from discussions about laws and theories, scientific debate, breakthroughs, discussion about new scientific breakthroughs, certain scientists/philosophers, and all that good stuff! So go out there and let out your inner science! ;P To get us going somewhere I'll start: what do you think the future holds for technology? I think our knowledge will allow us to overcome the obstacles thrown at us in the future, I mean, we have discovered so much and have come so far!
I thought dark matter was a different classification of matter, not just matter we can't see from here. If it is as the latter states, then I rescind my prior statement.
Like I said it could be exotic particles such as axions or WIMPs (Weakly Interacting Massive Particles). WIMPs being subatomic particles not made up of ordinary matter. Though it could also be MACHOs (Massive Compact Halo Objects), which are objects ranging in size from small stars to super massive black holes. Finally it could be a combination of both. Personally that sounds the most likely to me.
I havent read all of the posts yet, but i would like to make an inquiry. If a black hole is the absence of all matter, and has a gravitational pull strong enough to suck existing matter into it, what happens to that matter? There is a theory stating that matter can be neither created nor destroyed. If that is true, then a black hole would contain a whole bunch of matter, but then that would invalidate the definition of a black hole. I asked my science teacher and she told me to ask an astrologist, but I dont know how to find one.
thanks. my teacher has been known to teach false information, confusing mass with weight, and density with volume, so im not surprised she messed that up.
If you ever need another science question answered, feel free to ask.
So dark matter is just unidentified matter that we can't directly observe that could be attributed to several possible sources. Is dark matter present here?
