Hi everyone,

Since we have a LOT of duplicate threads on Armatars, I'm creating this sticky post where users can discuss ideas about armatars.

We've stated several times that Dan is in charge of armatars at the moment, and that if you want new armatars to go let him know. We have several new ideas for armatars on AG3 that we'll discuss in this thread as we work on it.

For starters, we ARE going to allow custom armatars at some point. I'm not sure if it'll be there when AG3 launches, but it's a priority. We'll have strict requirements, probably something like being a member for more than 6 months, and have a certain number of points/achievements or a reputation level of a certain rank or something. The specifics are still being worked out. One idea is that at one level (points/achievements/reputation), you could upload an armatar that only you could use. At another level, you could unlock it for your friends to use. At another level, your followers, and at the highest level, make it available for anyone on the site. We've also discussed the idea of letting our most artistic users create entire *sets* of armatars for the site.

In AG3, all users will have a unique URL for their armatar, which they can use on other sites if they choose. We'll have a link on your dashboard that will show you what the URL is or how to download a high-quality version of the image.

All armatar uploads will be heavily scrutinized by human eyes before they go live on the site. Users who abuse the system by uploading an image against our Terms and Conditions and other rules and guidelines about images will be permanently banned from the site.

Anyhow, if you have other ideas, questions, suggestions, please place them here. If you see other users asking about AG3 armatars, please direct them back to this forum thread.

we could upload any image (nothing obscene)

No, we do have to limit what you can upload. No celebrities, nothing with copyright, nothing animated, that kind of thing.

i agree, we should have a whole new variety of armatars, but I was thinking, if we could upload our own armatars, checked by armor games first.

I know you guys armatar in medieval style but from 100 to 3000 or so can you guys make armatars look like their evolving? like from peasant to soldier to knight to paladin to king to robot to robo-gunner-to cyber-knight? it would make armatars much more interesting... Adn you should add site themes like a medieaval one(wood, stone, etc textures) retro one(pixels, lights, neons) cyber one(cables, steel, small mechanical animations on the armor logo on top of the site) and so on.... Im not sayng that the curent theme is booring(personaly i realy like it) but othe people i know find it too ``standard`` and that the butons look like vista aero.... (well some of them)

I can't go trough all pages of this topic to see if this is requested by anyone. I would like to see more knights armatars, crusader, vikings, samurai, templar, romans, spartans... those will look really good, if you could make them ! ( Please make Sparatan.... )

Yeah, more Armatars would be nice. Keep away from the lesser-used ones because there's a reason they're not getting used.

I think you should probably temp-ban someone for a day if they upload a inappropriate custom aramatar because than they are just wasting the mod, who needs to make sure its appropriates', time. If they upload a celebrities, copyrighted, or animated one than it might not be their fault even though they should have read the rules first, but clearly any nudity or things of that manner are against the rules. If they do this multiple times than i could see it being a problem.

temp-ban someone for a day

Yeah, that'll work. (Sarcasm) People will still do it and the mods would be up to their necks keeping track of everyone's Armatar, besides, Armatars don't change automatically right when you change yours, it takes time.

If they haven't drawn it themselves, it is safe to say it probably won't get accepted.
At least that is how I read that.

But when you get rid of those, some of the ones that a lot of people use, will become unused, because everyone has it.

No .gif's!!!! Thank you, I hate when everyone has those pointless ones, plus it slows down my computer.

Not if you add new ones, which they are doing. Pay attention.

Ouch, you have a very short fuse. =o

I have been keeping up with this thread. I'm just saying, there's no point in deleting the ones not a lot of people are using, because there are some people that do.

Why yes, yes it will. If they do it more than once they will get banned longer and longer until they get perma'd or they take away their ability to have a custom armatar.

If they haven't drawn it themselves, it is safe to say it probably won't get accepted.

That's a much better way to say it because if you can sum up every rule into one than people will actually read it.

take away their ability to have a custom armatar.

I think if they violate it once, they should get temp. ban. Then the next offense would be having their abilities take away.

A temp-ban then a removal of their custom armatar privileges? Why punish before taking away? It should either be all at once, or vice-versa. Then, before all of this, they should at least get a warning or a notice. If a user finds that his custom armatar was deleted, then they should either be notified by a moderator/administrator, or by a notice saying that their armatar was deleted because it caused a copyright infraction. If they already have a notice on their record and they continue to upload non-original content, BAM, no more uploading privileges.

Well it wouldn't make sense to flip it. Think about it, if you get your privileges taken away, there is no possibility of abusing them again... so how would there be a second offense?
Yes, I do agree with you, there should be some sort of warning, but wouldn't you get the sense that your uploading something inappropriate? Maybe a warning for something that causes a copyright infraction, I can see that being a mistake.
Anyways...
