It's funny how your almost never born atheist, you become atheist. I personally think the whole religion thing is far fetched. Why cant we just be dead after we die? Why does there HAVE to be an afterlife? Dont get me wrong i respect others decisions, I just don't believe in it, who's with me? I'm going to be some grass fertilizer one day And home to some maggots + worms.
Okay, can't find a video. It's basically one of those "Lay you down in the dust" speeches the Ori in Stargate gives. Basically the idea I have of religious people - the only difference is the Ori is actually real in that story.
^ Flagged. Also, Your religion mostly depends on what religious area you were born in. As has been stated many times before me, we are all indoctrinated with a "belief".
It's just up to you to follow it later on or not. When you have the power to think about it, that is.
If the doc pulls you out of your mom and says "thank god" Then you are a Christian. If he pulls you out and says "Hail alah" You are a Muslim. If he pulls you out and says "Holy **** that was a fat baby" Then you are atheist.
If that's a joke than that's partially funny
If not, then pray for safety.
When you have the power to think about it, that is.
If you're given it. Often young people are indoctrinated with said religious beliefs and it becomes burnt into their minds. An unshakeable (and incredibly unreasonable) will is instilled into them that their God is real.
Well, if there's no purpose to life, then there is no reason for life. Therefore, following that string of "logic", we should destroy everything we possibly can.
Woah Cowboy, I don't go around destroying everything in my path, I simply just try and make the best of the time I have. I like to party, I like to stay out late. I try to work just a little bit to get by, basically not slaving every day to create a bunch of wealth, which, is sorta worthless in the end. Imo, Just try and look back and say, "Ya, i had a great time."
Do the other animals need a purpose? Do ducks go around worshipping a duck god? Wolves? Cats, etc? They cant pray so what is the meaning of their lives? Just to repopulate as much as possible to keep the seed going.
That's what we humans do, we just got a big brain, maybe we think too hard and thus come up with this religion as an answer to some of the hard questions when really, it's a lot more simple than that.
Would love to know God, hes got an open invitation to show up at my house and say hi any time.
he probably has gone up to your door. You are just probably too naive to realize that he's there.
There are numerous repercussions for our actions that have nothing to do with requiring a religion.
There are also criminals who get away with crimes that aren't caught and incarcerated. Religion states that even if you aren't caught by people, you are still guilty of your crimes.
No but seriously, nice finding Do you watch Stargate by the way? Awesome it is
Yes I do, I'm a big scifi fan. Could just relabel it "Every debate an atheist has had with a Christian"
But yeah, how do you do Link's please? I can obviously see the button but not sure how it works.
Two ways 1. copy your link, click the Link button, copy the link into the field, click OK, add the link title next to what was just created in the message box, click the Link button again to close the link.
2. type in your title, highlight the title, click the Link button, copy your link into the field, click OK
Stargate reference btw.
The SG quote I can use with honesty is "Sounds like my grandmother."

Since you're so sure he's real, what makes you think so? What exactly makes you think that there is an omnipresent being that loves everyone. When did he "come up to you door" as it were...I'd really like to know.

Religion isn't the only thing that does that...EVERYTHING says that if you do something you're guilty of it...HOWEVER, Religion is the ONLY thing that insists that you are by default a sinner and WILL go to Hell or be denied some eternal pleasure because you do not follow THEIR way.

Then he didn't do a very good job introducing himself now did he? When I say he's welcome to come over and introduce himself, I'm not talking about some weird feeling I dismissed, I mean "oof" George Burns or Morgan Freeman, or what ever physical form God wants to take (though for the sake of my carpet I would prefer it not to be a burning bush.) is standing in front of me saying "Hi, I'm God pleased to meet you." Is that really something that's two hard for an omnipotent being to do?

I guess that's really a statement of experience/opinion, but there's just some things in life that you can't explain, such as a lucky occurence.

You are a default sinner because it can automatically be determined that you WILL perform a sin in your life. You also seem to lack knowledge about the Bible and God's word. God WANTS you to do your own thing, without overwhelming constraints and rules. All he ask you to do is live a good life and try not to commit sin. And believe me, I have not always followed this. But to say that I am automatically condemned to hell is preposterous
Exactly Mage. If God truly wants to save all of us, and he IS omnipotent, then he can do what he knows need be done to save us. If he doesn't do it then either he is unwilling to save us, or unable.

He does give us opportunities to be saved. That's what asking for forgiveness is. Just because our life is horrible and is going wrong doesn't mean our afterlife would be the same.

The Bible states that God knows all of us, even better than we know ourselves. If this is true then he knows exactly what it would take to bring every single person in the world to him. (Job 36:4 among others)
The Bible also states that he wishes for no one to be apart from him, or to die. The only way for this to happen, according to the Bible, is for everyone to turn to him. (2 Peter 3:9)
According to the Bible God is all-powerful, he can do anything. (Job 41-41 among others)
If these things are all true, and God knows what it would take for us to be saved, wants us to be saved, and has the power to save us then by all reasoning he would do exactly that so that none would be apart from him.
The fact that he does not do what it takes means that these things are not all true. Either he doesn't know what we require to turn to him, he doesn't want everyone saved, or he can't do what is necessary.
Could ya name one? An annoying ignorant person yelling bible verses annoyingly doesn't count. What most atheists, like me, need is physical evidence. How about, I don't know, something actually impossible? Healing an amputee would work nicely. Go try it. It never works, no matter how hard you pray, beg, kneel, or talk to your sky faerie, you never helps, even though eh promised to. So why should we believe you not only lacking evidence, but in spite of evidence?
That's what asking for forgiveness is.
I didn't do anything I would consider wrong, only a psychopath like your god considers the things I do wrong. What did I do that was so wrong in your god's eyes? I lust, as most boys my age do. But your god is guilty of that, isn't he? That self- called jealous being? My only other "crime" is not believing an impossible story, do to factors that your god controlled, like my natural skepticism and my parents teaching me science at a young age.
Just because our life is horrible and is going wrong doesn't mean our afterlife would be the same.
Who are you talking to? My life is going great. I could easily achieve my goal of becoming a scientist continuing at this rate. The worst case scenario is that somehow I fail high school, but even then I can work summer for my dad's business, making a decent living, and finding some other job in the winter. I could continue living with my parents until I was able to surpass whatever kept me from passing high school and take the test. Even if I am never capable of passing, I could work at the factory or mill without a diploma. I live in a beautiful aria and have a lot of family hear, even if my parent's were incapable of housing me I could house with my grandparents. If that fails, my cousins could house me. Wow, I just realized I made way more than I want to in this last sentence.... This is why I shouldn't make a post after ten...

Why would He just hand it to us? Life is about deciding how to react to various situations that one faces. Telling us what to do and how to do it defeats the purpose entirely.
