I grew up atheist for 16 years. I had always kept an open mind towards religion, but never really felt a need to believe in it. My sister started going to a Wednesday night children's program at a church. Eventually, I was dragged into a Christmas Eve service. Scoffing, I reluctantly went, assuming that this was going to be a load of crap, but when I went, I felt something. Something that I've never felt before. I felt a sense of empowerment and a sense of calling. Jesus called upon my soul, just like he did with his disciples. he wanted me to follow him. Now, my life is being lived for Christ. He died on the cross for my sins, and the sins of everyone who believes in him. He was beaten, brutalized, struck with a whip 39 times, made to carry a cross up to the stage of his death. This I believe to be true, and I can never repay him for what he has done. I still have my struggles with Christianity, but I've found this bit of information most useful. Religion is not comprehensible in the human mind, because we cannot comprehend the idea of a perfect and supreme being, a God, but we can believe it in our heart, and that's the idea of faith. Faith is, even though everything rides against me believing in Jesus, I still believe in him because I know that it's true in my heart. I invite my fellow Brothers and sisters of the LORD to talk about how Jesus has helped you in your life. No atheists and no insults please
if there was no religion, where would our morals and respect for each other be
a human gets it's morals from i's seroundings. religion is not exclusivly providing us whit morals. most of the humans morals come from his family, friends and school. morals can change when the human grows older.
if we take religion out of the pics then we will still get all the morals we need by family, friends and school. (and other sources ofcours but these 3 are the main sources for young kids to learn their morals from)
if there was no religion, where would our morals and respect for each other be?
In the exact same place. If not further. Religion is not the source of morals by any means. All Religion does is reflect the current morals of society or outdated ones which holds back progress. Without religion, we'd be hundreds of years further in development if not thousands. (Both technology and morals)
Why did God create morals if he knew we might not follow them? This leads to a deeper question. Why did God create the world if he knew we would sin?
There is no answer because it's just contradictory, like many things in the bible.
where would our morals and respect for each other be?
You mean morals and respect like how it's okay to have slaves and woman are secondary to men? You mean morals like it's okay to beat said slaves so long as they don't die in a certain number of days or that woman are to marry their rapist?
The Bible covers a wide spectrum of moral behavior both negative and positive, as such it's not a guide for any.
if there was no religion, where would our morals and respect for each other be?
My favorite pass time is to go in a crowded area with an AK-47 and shoot everyone in sight, you know, because I have no religion.
I'm atheist but still believe that it is religion that gave us morals and respect for each other. I'm an atheist because I don't believe in the whole God thing but we can all learn from religion.
I'm atheist but still believe that it is religion that gave us morals and respect for each other.
So you think we didn't have these morals before religion? Many of the common place morals would be required for social animals to get along in a group. We can even see this in other social animals who would clearly not hold a religion.
So you think we didn't have these morals before religion?
Simply put, yes.
Many of the common place morals would be required for social animals to get along in a group. We can even see this in other social animals who would clearly not hold a religion.
Do you have a basis for this? Any particular reason why you believe that there were no morals before religion?
Well, how about eating one's own children in times of hunger? Is this a deed of high morality? How about eating other humans? Even animals don't eat their kind. This means there was a period when humanity had literally no morale.
That's shown in pretty much all animals when protecting/feeding their young.
Young, maybe, though this is already proven to be an internal instinct of anything living that performs a slightest care for their young. What about self-sacrifice for the better of the herd? We humans are capable of this, while no animal is.
