1. Death Note <-- not too many people I know have heard of it, but after the first chapter, it's brilliant 2. One Piece 3. Rurouni Kenshin 4. Inuyasha 5. Bleach
Tomoya Okazaki is an ordinary high school senior who doesn't take his studies seriously. Always late for class, he's seen as a delinquent by the rest of his classmates, who are busily preparing for their college entrance examinations. He hates his life and the whole town, and the closest thing he has to a real friend is Loser Guy Youhei Sunohara, who just barely manages to rise to the level of Butt Monkey at the best of times. Tomoya is thoroughly miserable.
Then one day, while walking to school, he bumps into Nagisa Furukawa, a shy girl whose only friends at the school have already graduated. Whenever Tomoya sees her around school, she's alone; her classmates scarcely notice she exists, and no one has any interest in befriending her.
No one, that is, except Tomoya, who without even realizing it finds himself taking her under his wing. As he sets out to help her reestablish the school's drama club, he finds himself connecting (or, as it often turns out, reconnecting) with several other girls from the school. Although he doesn't care much about them at first â" he doesn't much care about anything at first â" he gradually opens his heart to them as they get to know each other better.
The title, according to the author, comes from the Irish word for "family" â" and indeed family (along with the related concept of nakama) â" is a major theme of CLANNAD. (More accurately, "Clannad" is the name of an Irish band, an abbreviation of "Clann as Dobhar" or "the family from Dore." A slightly unfortunate bit of Gratuitous Irish.)
Oh, by the way, does anyone here watch Spice and Wolf? I've heard quite a lot about the anime recently and wondered if anyone would care to give me some info and their opinions?
I have just started watching it, so I don't know anything about it, but I hear it's good.
Spice and Wolf is god tier anime. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in a good romance anime.
kinda boring
I lol'd. I'm not sure how anyone thought it could be boring. The pacing is alright, but I guess people can't take the slightly more sophisticated plot. I mean it is focused around economics more or less, so that is a turn off for some people.
Watched the first season of Spice and Wolf, it was awesome, Holo/Horo is one of the strongest female leads I've seen in anime in a long time and the voice-acting in both was superlative as well as the quality of the dub.

I find it interesting that you enjoyed the dub so much. I actually watched the subs just so I could also watch the second season without having to deal with a change in voice actors. And I actually liked Korbo's sub voice much more than that of the dub. But I suppose it really is a personal preference thing.

That's not to say that I found the dub to be 'better' - I thought that both the sub and dub voice actors gave strong and memorable performances in their role and that each excelled in their field but, I will admit, there were definite differences in the 'type' of voices and so it's understandable enough to choose one over the other - it's merely my opinion that both, while individual, gave a certain flavour to the anime. The only reason why I may have slightly preferred the dub was due to the ease of watching it during the really dialogue-heavy scenes but even then I went back and watched the sub of the same scenes. Certainly I'd recommend the sub but at the same time I wouldn't discount the dub as being not worth watching - even if you've watched the sub already.
I agree. I wish I had time to go back and re-watch it. I'm hoping for a season 3, but I really have no clue whether that will happen or not. But I do understand your point that both are different. And while I didn't mind the dub voice the only real reason I watched subs was because season 2 isn't dubbed. And it's a pain to switch voice actors.
