1.) Inyuasha (Brillant story and character devlopment and its a classic you can never beat the classics)

So, what did you think of the ending then?
Alchemy is both a philosophy and an ancient practice that seeks to prepare the "elixir of longevity"...

Nothing real in that
You'd be surprised how people still try.

Okay, my list (including manga and anime, which also indicates my preference if a work consists of both). I'm trying to single out my top five:

1) One Piece (manga)
2) Spirited Away (anime)
3) Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (anime)
4) Trigun + Trigun Maximum (manga)
5) FLCL (anime)

5 was a really tough one. I'm a fan of Studio Ghibli (i.e. Miyasaki) and Gainax stuff, so it was a toss-up between FLCL and The Castle of Cagliostro.

I've just watched the first season of The World God Only Knows - I'd highly recommend watching it, it's an awesome anime, quite unlike anything I've ever watched before. Here's a quick summary:

Keima Katsuragi is famous on the Net as "The Capturing God"; there is no Dating Sim that he cannot beat, no heroine he cannot capture â" while in real life he's known as "otamegane" and hates all real girls. One day, he receives a provocative email asking for his help in capturing some girls. He rises to the challenge, inadvertently making a Deal With The Devil to help Elsie, a low-ranking devil, catch runaway spirits. Apparently the spirits only hide in the hearts of troubled girls, and the only way to get them out is by making the girl fall in love. If he fails, the contract will take his head!

Going back to earlier, when we were talking about Clannad, I've just about finished it, and I must say that I'm impressed. It actually reminded me of Angel Beats quite a bit. I suppose that makes sense though since they are both by Key. Anyway, if anyone here liked Clannad they'll probably like Angel Beats as well.

I've just watched the first season of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei - it's actually pretty good, the animation is certainly original, there is some room for better character development I guess but the humour works well enough.

I noticed that most people like some of the usual list i.e. Bleach, FMA, DBZ etc... not saying these are not good, they rock, but...

Anyone out there like some of the more obscure stuff?

RoujinZ, Wings of Honamiese, CyberCity Odeo808.

How about Uritsokidoji? Btw for those yougsters that dont know of this I would suggest NEVER watching this when your parents are around as it has sexual scenes abound.

I haven't seen many different Animes. But my favorites would have to be Inuyasha, DragonBall Z and Avatar: The Last Airbender, if that qualifies.

Inuyasha - The story of it is wonderful and I enjoy the drama and action that's involved in the show.

DragonBall Z - Pure action. There are some dramatic moments, but not much because all the action covers it up.

Avatar: The Last Airbender - I started watching it when it was first created and was intrigued with the whole story. A boy frozen in an ice berg, found by two other people then they go on magnificent adventures.

I watch some Animes that broadcast on Adult Swim, but due to other shows that I enjoy airing at those times - I don't have much time for the Anime.

I remember a Anime show airing on Adult Swim a few years ago, I think it was Anime.
It's called Big-O or something like that and there was a man in a mansion and he would enter a giant machine. I can't really remember any other details since it was years ago.

So:
Inuyasha
DBZ
Avatar: The last Airbender
Big-O
Something from Adult Swim.

I don't keep track of the Anime on Adult Swim, I just watch them.

Avatar: The last Airbender

It's Western-made so it doesn't count as 'anime' under the Western world's definition.

1) Fullmetal Alchemist.
2) Outlaw Star
3) Trigun (Manga better than anime)
4) Elfen Lied.
5) Samurai Champloo & Cowboy Bebop are on par.

Just wanted to say that I definitely respect your taste Peggster.

Yeah I've been noticing that also. It seems that at least one of the big 3 (or former big 3 I should say) always slips into someone's top 5. Never understood why though.

Ah, I knew that one didn't fit for a reason.

Well, I'll replace it with Naruto.
