Everyday I just make a quick sandwich in the evenings and put it in the fridge and take to the school the next day. It's way cheaper than school lunches, tastes nicer I don't have to queue and it's probably about as filling as all the school lunches. Most people get school lunches and almost all of them get fizzy drinks or milkshakes everyday with lunch and sometimes another one to drink during break. I only get water. So basically for 5-10 minutes in an evening I get a cheaper, tastier lunch that's about as filling as school lunches and I don't have to queue. Also, if you're doing clubs you can finish it there and if you don't finish you can eat it at home. How is it in any way better to fore kids to have school lunches?

I thought this may happen... Americans are outraged over something like lunches, again.

Why does everyone critacize everything that the government does and then says it is not "one of their rights?" It doesn't make sense to me.

However, I do think that banning kids from bringing their own lunches is beyond stupid. The parents are the ones paying for whatever meal that their kid eats, so why not let them eat what they want? Ban the truly bad things like that place that won't allow processed foods, if you are going to ban anything at all, but don't ban homemade lunches.

It's bull**** too, because the only thing that that school has going for them right now is their claim that they will serve healthy lunches. How do you have that kind of budget? You are in a poverty stricken district and you still say you have the budget to make healthy lunches? By whoes standard?

Plain and simple, no one should ban school lunches. regardless of what I think of the people who are complaining about their rights, that just shouldn't happen.

It doesn't have to be a big deal for us to become upset. Remember, all these small "negligible" problems stack up. Schools are treating children more and more like inmates every year, and every year parents have an even smaller say in what their child is allowed to bring to school.

It used to be kids could wear whatever they wanted to school, then schools wanted to stop bullying so they took the children's freedom of expression. Parents might want to send a nuttybar in their child's lunch as a snack, schools want to keep the child "healthy" so they don't even let the parent have a choice as to what their children eat. Want to allow kids to eat healthier? Offer food that is healthy AND tastes good.

Children are being taught in school that they shouldn't have a voice that goes against the status quo. They are taught that it is better to be like everyone else rather than stand out.

But moms homemade Pb&J doesn't put money in your schools pocket. You need to get a bit of buisness sense

Qwerty, in circumstances where you were allowed to make a choice on whether you wanted to eat food at school at home, then your post would have been fine. It's when you are being forced to either eat food at school or starve which is crossing the line. This is not business sense in any sense of the phrase. This is government telling you what to spend your money with. The business sense phrase would work if, say, the school takes steps to entice the children to eat their food--if they made it great-tasting, something not alive, and had different choices to make: healthy, energy-giving, or sweet and starchy?

well it was kind of a joke and a simplified version of the schools point of view

People in my school actually prefer to eat the school's lunches. Im in a league of a few who actually bring homemade lunches to school. I wish our school would ban homemade lunches because our school serves FREE, professional chef made dishes. One of our chef's actually has his own catering company.

@nemo Is your school private or a state school because most state schools make you pay for meals but it's the opposite at private schools. Also if the lunches are free why bring homemade ones

I'd hide your lunch and eat school lunches if I were you. And if your school is private the cost of the lunches is part of the fees so they aren't really free

Like I said before, I think the schools should worry about giving the kids a decent education rather than excellent food.

I think schools should worry about giving kids a decent eduacation before they start all this. This is just another scheme using kids for money . . It really seem like they care about the kids health, but they only want the money provided by kids buying school lunches.
