People often complain about how their prayers always go unanswered, and I was just wondering what the AG community thought about this topic. I was also interested in where your opinions where on asking God for something.

Why not start a business and create a new insinuative and make money. Use that money on people who need it like hard working mexicans.

Lol, really. What you're saying is "why not become successful and earn a lot of money"? If it was that easy, everyone would do it. You don't just decide to become rich all of a sudden.

What it means is, instead of praying to god to fix your flat tire, get off your *** and do it yourself.

E1337, you silly, we all know that flat tires reinflate themselves if you only ask god, but remember, when you pray it can't be to gain anything and you have to be a believer! Oh wait, that's a contradiction...why would you pray except to gain anything...whoopsies.

Like after a terrorist attack instead of comforting the people your go **** yourself and start rebuilding?

You don't say I will pray for you you just pray for people. Also known as doing nothing.
Incurable disease there will never be a cure.

So don't pray.

Two hands working can do more than a thousand clasped in prayer.

My little finger helping can do more than the rest of the world praying.

I think that people who pray believe that their prayers will get answered. And if they believe that their prayers will get answered then prayer helps.

You mean on just a psychological level?

Praying helps your state of mind. It doesn't necessarily mean what you pray for will come true, but knowing that you're communicating with the God you worship does help a lot of people get through - makes them feel less alone.

@Islam Fail vid
Mathew 4:5-7
5 Then the Devil took him along into the holy city, and he stationed him upon the battlement of the temple 6 and said to him: âIf you are a son of God, hurl yourself down; for it is written, âHe will give his angels a charge concerning you, and they will carry you on their hands, that you may at no time strike your foot against a stone.ââ 7 Jesus said to him: âAgain it is written, âYou must not put your God to the test.ââ

prayer is answered in 3 ways

yes no and soon

yes:- what you pray for happens
soon:- it may happen in 1 week 2week 1 year who knows
no:- nothing happens

same methods applied to if you prayer to a jug of water.

in the end you have to want it bad and it usually you who makes it work not god. say over 1 bil pray to him how can he answer them all? most of prayers a things that you don't really need or you can achieve by yourself. also its best not to pray when you only want stuff, pray to be thankful for what you have and you may be rewarded for goodness.

no im making a point if you pray to anything it may happen or not just like if you pray to god it happens or it doesn't simple logic.
and as for the goodness part so those who believe in the karma stuff it pays to be nice

They don't actually know they are talking with God, they just think they are.

You must not put your God to the test.

Why not? Seems pretty counter intuitive.

yes:- what you pray for happens
soon:- it may happen in 1 week 2week 1 year who knows
no:- nothing happens

It's just a cop out. Seems like a set up that allows for even unanswered prayer to be considered answered. The rate of yes and no seems completely arbitrary meeting standards no better than chance as well.

Anyway I remember my mom had prayed for a cure to diabetes. That voice in her head (God) answered, telling her she would live to see the day there was a cured and would be cured. She died in a diabetic coma, so far as I could tell.
So here we have an example of a prayer that was supposedly answered with a "soon" that was actually a no.

To me, prayer seems to help not necessarily because your problems are solved, but because you are addressing said problems and airing them out for speculation.

it can keep up your morale, give you something to think about and turn to in a tough time. if you pray for your problems to be solved then go on doing nothing, then naw.

Maybe praying doesn't actually DO anything but it gives you hope. Like, I can do this if God is helping me through. Because (i know this is cheesy) but if you believe you can do it, you actually CAN!
