People often complain about how their prayers always go unanswered, and I was just wondering what the AG community thought about this topic. I was also interested in where your opinions where on asking God for something.

@iMogwai
I misread the comment, I thought it said "suck up." I'll shut up now.

It's funny how Christianity's holidays just "happen" to coincide with the pagan ones. Read into that what you want.

IT'S A MIRACLE!

It's not like they hijacked the various holidays, tacked on elements of there own beliefs and repackaged them as their own. All to get people to convert to Christianity.

Well, cept for Halloween. They needed to leave at least 1 pagan holiday to point there finger at and call the work of the devil.

Well, perhaps you should pick one up sometime and read it. You might find it interesting

As for miracles being performed by God; there aren't buddhists or muslims flocking to miracles such as Our Lady of Fatima or incorruptable bodies, saying, 'that was our God!'

That is drawing random conclusions from a book saying hey, this bit at the beginning could be said to guess the end in a bad light! The fact that we know what happens at the end is irrelevant. It must be holy if it can tell the future. And maybe Hindus and Muslims don't want to lie so blatantly for their religion.

You're all thinking to seriously, for some people it helps morally, it boosts their confidence, hope and happiness.

I'll accept the hope and happiness bit but if you base your morals on God then you should follow the old testament too because if God is the basis for morals why would he ever change his mind.

As for Kasic and the Wolf fellow; Kasic, ever heard of the ten commandments? Because some say that's God's law, and Wolf, life on earth is supposed to be a fulfilling experience for us, assuming you have friends and such.

Yes but God encouraged stealing from and killing several cities in The Book of Joshua so long as they weren't jews. Several are protection from worshipers leaving for better Gods. The sabbath one was just because people wanted a rest once a week. Jesus says he came to take people from their family to follow him. Jesus lies a lot in the bible and so does God although people pretend he was being metaphorical or something.

They did that to please the Romans so if they converted to Christianity they could still have parties.

The pagan religion is very old, and many holidays correlate with the pagan ones. Islamic and Jewish holidays do it as well.

Just a question: Are we really this off-topic or is it just me?

Well since we have pretty much established that prayer is useless and has a detrimental effect this is our new topic.

I looked on Wikipedia (Don't always trust it) and it said that people who pray typically have a better attitude than people who don't. Does preying just mess with the mind perhaps?

Right, that explains why religious people are so open-minded. They'd never dream of forcing their beliefs on others, and there's no chance they'd ever be homophobic. And yes, I can see the irony in using sarcasm when trying to argue with that statement. >_>

Funny, I pray and I'm homophobic... Then again, I pray and I created this thread.

As I said, I was being sarcastic. And being homophobic is not a sign of having a good attitude.

i dont think prayer is useless it works for me. maybe it just doesnt work for you guys becuase you dont believe?.....idk maybe just a thought.

That's like saying homeopathy works for me. Unless you have any proof, you can't really say that it works. Actually all studies showed the opposite, prayer does NOT work.

It might be relieving for you because you have "somebody" to talk to but that doesn't mean that this "somebody" exists. You could compare it to the placebo effect of homeopathic medicine.

Exactly prayer brings people together to comfort them. So why should they stop?
