I am starting a new debate with this question. Does America's society still have standards? I say we do as we do our best to keep our country and people safe from subjection to things, but what about what kids are playing? What about these bloody, gorey, bone-cracking, skull flying video games we play? Should that be something we should allow to be played? I don't think they should be banned but maybe cut down on the gore and blood. As for the clothes some people wear, I don't want to believe for even a second that SOMEONE out there hasn't been offended by another being's clothes. SUPER short shorts, skimpy clothes, guys' boxers hanging out. I want to hear other's opinions though and questions and answers. Is America's standards as good as they once were?

Our society has changed a lot, and for the worse. Kids are being sheltered from what the world is actually like by their parents. I believe that the standards have lowered.

Things could get worse. But hope is good too.

Would you rather have your kid see something like guts and gore an inhumane things, or watch porn, which is still uncomfortable, but it's more natural.

Whats really the question here is whether gore is worse than nudity, which it seems to be. But I'd rather know somebody who jacks off to some porn than murders some innocents because of what he sees.

What would you rather have be more offensive, pornography or blood, gore, and murder?

Concerning the point of people murdering someone because of violent video game.Video games don't make someone kill another person. People have to make their own choices and if someone cannot tell right from wrong and murders someone why should video games be blamed.

Video games don't make someone kill another person.

No... But they may trigger deep emotional feeling similar to PTSD. Which is why pornography should be more accepted by the political standard than extrememly violent video games.

Ha! Standards? In this world? I think not. It's more of people had too start doing these things(murder, prostitution, and inappropriate media) for money because they had too. Now, when our adults were kids back then they saw their parents making money doing this stuff and saw it was easy so they started doing it. Did that make any sense?

girls are raised to be *****s. in little kid shows theres a girl whos in love with a guy, falls inlove with another guy, then realises its a mistake and goes for guy #1. what does that teach them? guys r granted and they do everything for them but you dont have to give them respect. EVERY girl now in my highschool is dressing like a *****, even some of the fat ones (<thats gross)

On the topic of the violent video games I think that it's up to parents to regulate what their child does. A government can do things up to a certain extent but if the government goes to far it can start interfering with peoples freedoms.

Yes, but many parents do not care about what their child is doing. So then it is up to the government to do things about the video games accepted by todays standards.

I am glad to see this topic is taking off. Please try to keep things a little more appropriate, but it is good that pornography was brought up. Some agree that it should be ok and that some are accepting it and that it can be found in stores where young kids go, just furthers the point that America is throwing its standards out the window.

I'm not saying that pornography should be allowed to young children instead of extremely violent video games, I'm just saying the standards should be reversed.

Standards can be good or bad. If it was culturally taboo to play violent video games, that would be bad, because violent video games are harmless fun.

Other bad standards we have as Americans are homophobia, sexism and absolutely sickening discrimination against zoophiles.

Porn is also vaguely taboo in America. Personally, I think our slight disgust is not the way to go about it. I'd rather see a culture completely reject pornography as anti-feminist.

To answer the OP, yes, of course we have standards. You just don't notice them all because they seem natural to you. We have loads of arbitrary standards.

He means the maturity of people today, if you read the OP you would get that.
