Does the U.S really need political parties? I feel like the main reason nothing is done is because the two parties rarely can agree on something. So, while they are arguing the problem is still there and by the time the two parties have agreed on something another problems has already come up. Obviously, its good to have differences so that we dont have a tunnel vision but, I feel like that fact you need a percentage of the vote of the opposite party is a huge barrier. I feel if everyone was "independent" that they would have to get the percentage as a whole rather than two separate bodies.
I could give an incredibly long answer to this but I will summarise it. YES. If there were no political parties we have something which we call a dictator.
completely wrong. that's what the 3 branches of government are for: legeslative, judicial, and executive. they are created to divide the power among the 3 branches according to what the people want, since they voted them in (i knnow they're not doing exactly what we want, but that's what it was made for). but all political parties do is divide the nation even more with how different the two main parites think. and if you're not in a political party, it's almost impossible to get into office, which definitely isn't right by any means. without political parties, it'd give the country one less thing to have pointless political arguements over. not saying all political arguements are pointless, i'm saying that argueing which party is wrong is a pointless political arguement. political parties are in a way, like religion: without political parties, we as a country and as a species would move on much, much faster. because without them, it would be much harder to pick out who has what beliefs and who's voting for which candidate, which is how it should be.
our politicians are directly voted into the house of representatives, the largest (winning) party then tries to form a coalition and will then form the new administration.
If the US would not have political parties it would not be a democracy. Who knows what would US presidents do if they would know their parties could do whatever they want? Yes other part members might start hating them a little more but in large you need political rivalry in order to prevent radicals from taking over the country.
This has probably already been discussed but, Washington stated in his farewell address that America should avoid Political Parties, Debt, and Foreign Alliances. We should elect the best person to lead, not the best person in a particular group.

As turtleman said to a similar response that is incorrect. We have a system of checks and balances. The US doesn't need political parties. The parties just make politicians feel forced to go for certain things that might not be in the best interest of the country and will only help the party. Also the parties attack each other and it creates discontinuity in the government. Political parties just slow things down way too much. Especially in times of crisis. Therefore it would be in Americas best interest to get rid of the whole party system. This, however, will most likely never happen and so we'll just have to deal with it as is.
