Does the U.S really need political parties? I feel like the main reason nothing is done is because the two parties rarely can agree on something. So, while they are arguing the problem is still there and by the time the two parties have agreed on something another problems has already come up. Obviously, its good to have differences so that we dont have a tunnel vision but, I feel like that fact you need a percentage of the vote of the opposite party is a huge barrier. I feel if everyone was "independent" that they would have to get the percentage as a whole rather than two separate bodies.
I dont think so, only comitees get somthing done if they all agree and political parties never agree or it seems like they dont. I agree with your views
Yeah, I feel like political parties really mess up the constitution and everything simply so, they can gain the "high ground" of thigs i mean recently when the Republican "took over" the house im like "yeah, thats great my mom still doesnt have healthcare, foreclosing are still happening, people are still losing jobs, the market still sucks but, hey now the republican party is ruling im glad" you know its like it really doesnt solve anything
I could give an incredibly long answer to this but I will summarise it. YES. If there were no political parties we have something which we call a dictator.
Fancy seeing this subject up here. I was actually asking myself the same question not too long ago. How american gov't and politics have been going in the last 3-4 yrs, I dont think so. It is more like selfish agenda parties than political

lol im suprised this subject wasnt brought up a long time ago
If we have a single viewpoint with one party America would be a country with a single way of doing things. Now they are influenced b how they need to please people and occasionally have to listen to the other party. This is better for the country.

I'm curious, as to how often this actually happens.
Being a Canadian my poltical system works a little differently, if the ruling party has a minority government then they're forced to compromise so they don't get kicked out of power. Tell me, does the American system work in a similar fashion? Because all I see is fear and hate mongering from both ends.
We need to get rid of the partisan politics. Both republicans and Democrats are just in it to make their party seem better, so that they get more seats in the white house. All everything is, is just greed and corruption.
What? Voting based on the merits of the person running for the office and not by which whom they are associated with? BLASPHEMY! Parties are unecessary, but they do represent the ideas by which that party follows, so it's kind of natural that they form.
When our government was originally set up, there weren't supposed to be parties. It is definitely a barrier as people more often than not vote for someone in their party than by actually evaluating them personally and their beliefs.
Is it to much to ask to have a humanist party? Why can't we realize that we are all one race and that segregation because of race, ideals, and personal morality is stupid?
We, as a species on this Earth, should come together as one and realize that no matter how bad we may hate someone, that is petty when looking at all of humanity.
