Now i understand the reasons why Christians feel the need to go to church, for the sense of community ect ect ect

but from my experience christians seem to think its a sin or an obligation when you dont go to church, deists that belive in and worship god are often thought of as being lazy or not commited to faith

it says in the bible: where two or three are gathered together god is there

so surely a family worship would be a much more personal and practical for most people, so why dont more people do it?

i didnt ise that argument, and you have to argue both sides and its an essay question so i had to write alot more than that to get ful marks

Lucky you, I don't like going into depth on exams, assessments or essays unless I really have to - I feel it loses me time. I usually do the mistake of going SO FAR into depth I'm really doing myself no favors - missing 5 pages on a maths exam because of it :/

By the way... both sides?
The way I see it:
Christian side
Christian side but not entirely the same form of Christian side
Other religious side
Government side
Non-religious side (various)

?

no, i just had to argue that its useful and then that its not useful and then give my personal viewpoint

and basically the essay was the whole exam so i had to go in depth but i know what you mean

Ah well, I'm against - spending, as said in the little answer, "time, effort and currency" on a building made specifically for worship? Hell no. I think it's worth more building a bland shelter made for meditation. At least then I think something could come of it (silence?)

and basically the essay was the whole exam so i had to go in depth but i know what you mean

Lucky you I have mine with a few different questions so usually I do the bare essential answering, often going more indepth once I have time.

these ones have six small one or two word questions
and then two small questions about half a page, then two essay questions

I showed up late to the party, but just for the sake of debating without creating another thread, have any of you heard of Richard Dawkins's theory of memes?

Dawkins came up with the idea for the simple reason of explaining the exact question shown in the title of this thread.

Sadly, it sometimes creates more problems than it solves, just because so far it has been unprovable.

If true though, it does explain Christian obligation to go to church. Sorry I couldn't help you earlier.

Im Christian and the last time I went to church was Christmas. You dont have to go to church every week. When you go to church they usually say the same things every year. Example: Christmas they talk about the birth of Jesus, Easter they talk about his death and reserection to forgive all sins, then there are the non holiday things, like January-July is the old testimate (Sorry to all grammar freaks for that spelling) and August-September is the well... the new.

In other words you go for a few years and then you sorta learn it all. I stay home on sundays, I still pray every night before I eat dinner and I still pray every time a family member is in need or there is some disaster on TV.

I'd like to ask where I have specifically targeted any form of Christians.

Never was directed at you just in general Highfire.

Thank you, but, in all fairness - you have argued that arguments against the Vatican are not applied to you, it's a fair gesture. I don't stand for all atheists, non-believers, whatever you'd like to call them - it's often this common idealogy we both have and the fact it's in these types of threads. Does the argument against Catholics (and the Vatican) point towards me then?
