Personally, I think there should be no religion. Not that you can inforce that anymore than you can inforce having one religion for everyone to believe in.
But what about all the great things about religion? It provides a strong community to those who seek it, and gives hope to people who need it. A man who attends the synagogue up my street tells me that if he hadn't converted to Judaism he would still be shooting up drugs or already be dead.
Not to say that religion doesn't have it's downsides, but wars have been fought over many things, from the possession of land to money to the ego of one man. How would abolishing religion change any of that?
Getting rid of religion would remove the fuel or the ignition for a lot of negative things in this world - religion is like a box of matches, in the right hands it can be used to keep people warm and light the way, in the wrong hands it becomes a tool of destruction. Religion is used as justification for crimes against humanity, ignorance and discrimination just as much as it's used as something to bind people to a common cause - a common cause that's not always good either.
