heres a question for you guys, does it matter in the end? as long as there are people, there will be a need to explain things, and as long as there is a need to explain things, there will be religious belief. as long as there is religious belief, there is always somebody who is going to misinterpret something or take it out of context to suit their needs. when this happens, new religions and cults start popping up. as far as we know, our religious philosiphy has been so distorted over the milennia, that to say "I believe in jesus" could mean any of the millions of christian sects currently in existience. take it from a mormon, some of these religions are distorted, and are far from teaching the right lesson. as long as you know what is right and wrong, you should be able to find the true faith.
Religions encourage staleness, with a religion you are no longer searching for answers because you deem the ultimate answer to be 'God(s)' and leave it at that, by discarding religions we encourage the growth of searching for the answers using scientific knowledge and methodology rather than religious ignorance. Religion is no longer necessary in modern society, it gives us nothing but takes away so much, I think the only true 'faith' we need is faith in humanity to do the right thing.
I think there should be hundereds of religions since people should believe whatever they want without being told what to believe. It's the first amendment.
I really dont care how many or how few religions are. What does bother me is how the religious majoritys like christianity and islam get to push around the minoritys.
But the majority religions are right they should be allowed to and if the minorities are right why are they still minorities?

Why not science? Science is tested and has evidence and proof. Religion is a crazy story dreamed up by a goatherd on drugs

Well that's not compleatly true. I want to be a scientist. I think the more broader questions are answered by God. What happens when we die, how did everything start, Those kinds of things. But for something like finding a cure to my asthma there would by no need. Maybe because it feels so reachable.
Maybe in theory, there is only one religion. However, as you spread the word across different parts of the world it becomes interpreted differently as well as tying in their own moral beliefs. Maybe this had something to do with multiple religions? Just a guess!
it doesn't really matter at this point. people will always disagree with the teachings of one religion, and branch off. or they will disagree with religion in general. in this case I have to say to each his own. who knows, maybe some day, everybody can agree on ideals, but we all know that won't happen.
