I love the weather and have always been interested in it. To me, the creation of incredible storms and the patterns of heat, wind, fronts, and pressure systems in absolutely incredible, especially since many of these things still baffle humans!
I want to know: does anybody share my interest? Any other weather buffs out there? Or, some interesting story or fact about the weather?
I'm not sure if I mentioned this in the thread already, but my ideal weather is about seventy degrees, sunny, and a little windy. I like it like that because it's perfect weather, for me. I don't have to wear too much or too little clothing to feel comfortable, and I can be outside a long time without feeling too cold or too hot. What's everyone else's ideal weather?
Hello everyone. Before mentioning what I came here to say, I'm going to answer those two questions :
What do you prefer: 100 and humid (heat indices of 110's, 120's) ...or... 0 and windy (wind chills of -20's, -30's)
. Definitely the latter. I know that's really cold, but I just can't stand heat combined with humidity. In all cases, extreme cold is preferable to me over extreme heat, maybe because I get a lot of the latter here during the summer, I guess, while none of the former during the winter. If it's 100 and humid, it's impossible for me to be anywhere without a strong AC, while if it's as cold as 0 I can just stay home and have the radiator do its job, or even go out with some really heavy clothing.
What's everyone else's ideal weather?
Hmmm... I'd have to say seventy degrees or so (could be slightly lower, or even a little bit higher), sunny (or even a bit cloudy, I wouldn't have a problem) and with little-to-no wind. Seeing that this kind of weather is, in general, so far, the most liked one, I'd like to mention that the second most ideal weather, for me, I think would be somehwat cool (50 to 60), with some wind (3 or 4 B) and no sun, yet no rain either. The only place I can take very hot weather is somewhere with the sea in close range and an AC.
So, what did I have in mind when I came here? The weather in my country. I bet it's not something local, but the climate here seems to have gone a tad insane! On March or April, there was one day I had to have the heating on, so as not to be cold, while on another I almost turned the AC on! And it wasn't, like, the 1st and the 31st; they only were 15 or 18 days apart. On the whole, every season seems to start slightly later than what it used to by the year, here. Opinions?
I'd have to say my ideal weather day is: a high of 78 and slightly humid as the be ripe for the development of severe afternoon thunderstorms. I love thunderstorms, and the severe ones around here (Iowa) tend to be really cool.
As to p1a2r3i4s5's question, I'd have to say the weather's been slightly out of whack here, too. It was 90 when school ended, and then the highs went back down to the 60's. Weirder still, we had thunderstorms, except after the storms it remained cloudy. Why is this weird? Well, storms have trouble developing when there's no direct sunlight heating; despite this, storms kept developing and hitting us! Also, we had record highs, low-highs, and high-lows in March. Oh, and don't forget 7 inches of rain in one day, and major floods along the Missouri River counties. It has been a crazy year!
It was supposed to storm last night, but it didn't! The storms (1) literally didn't move at all once they formed, and (2) they didn't form over where I live! It made me mad and sad...
OK, snowguy13, after all that you said, I feel the craziness is quite a bit limited here; you successfully dwarfed it . Anyway, I hope this doesn't get any more out of the ordinary... otherwise, I can see snow here near the end of May in the future!
I can't say I'm pleased with the current weather here, either, although it's what we're used to for this time of the year (for a bit earlier than this time of the year, as I mentioned above, but nothing too outrageous of a difference). It's getting hotter and hotter, that is. I would hate to see us reach a new record for the area, though. As if 104 was not high enough, last year!

Where I live that happens all the time, i have had times where its been 50 or 60 degrees on christmas and i have had times where it has snowed on easter. Once summer comes tho it get more consistent. Mid 80s to low 90s
my ideal weather tho is about 60 or maybe a little colder, sunny, and with no wind. If im outside, its because im skateboarding, and if im skateboarding i get hot, very hot, unless the air is cold. Usually 60 or below is perfect.
Describe the craziest thunderstorm you have ever seen!
Here's mine:
I left the Science Center one hot, muggy afternoon. The ground was wet, so I was disappointed (I assumed I had missed all the storms).
However, on the way home, a dark front slowly nudged into our view... About 90% of the way home, rain started pouring down, and some of the most intense lightning I have ever seen blitzed about above us.
We got home, and I rushed to the TV to check a radar. The forecast finally came on, and I got one glimpse of a dark red line about to bear down on us, then the power went out. Seconds later, tornado sirens sounded. For once, I thought we actually might get hit.
My parents herded everyone downstairs into the safest room. My dad stayed out to look through a basement window. After arguing with my mom, I got to go out and look, too. As the gust front passed, I got a view of two twisting cloud features drooping from it. I pointed them out to my dad, who forced me back to the safest room. This time, he came, too.
For about ten minutes, we huddled together as lightning flashed and thunder crackled above us. Finally, the sirens turned off, and we got out. The rain was still pounding, and our power was still out. Fortunately, the worst damage was a few small branches in our yard.
The power didn't come back on for about seven hours. The next day, my dad and I went around town helping a large group of people clean up after the two tornadoes (which were EF-0 and EF-1; very weak). All over town, branches were struck down; marks had been made on the fire station roof as the tornadoes had swirled the rocks located there; the local Casey's had lost a bit of its roof; but otherwise, no major damage was done.
The craziest? It was about 5 pm, and the sky was a purplish black, there was lightning and thunder every other second and it went on for about an hour, it seriously looked like Zeus was real and was having a party in the clouds.
Where i'm from it is almost impossible to predict the weather, one day it is heavy rain with storms and hail stones, another day it's really sunny almost 30 degrees celcius.
