I love the weather and have always been interested in it. To me, the creation of incredible storms and the patterns of heat, wind, fronts, and pressure systems in absolutely incredible, especially since many of these things still baffle humans!

I want to know: does anybody share my interest? Any other weather buffs out there? Or, some interesting story or fact about the weather?

Please, share it here!

I like the rain. The rain is always a nice and welcome sight to me, for some reason.

Other than that, my favorite weather is probably sunny, and 70 to 75 degrees (Fahrenheit).

That volcano lightning looks so epic.
Have you guys ever heard of ball lightning?
I don't know much about it except that it is a wacky natural phenomenon that is sometimes mistaken for UFO's.
It might be real or not, i dont know, i just read about it in a book about UFO's and why people mistake them to be real.

Too **** hot right now. It's 99 degrees outside. I tried walking outside and went right back inside. Good thing I have an air conditioner.

That volcano lightning image is absolutely incredible. Thanks for sharing, that shows exactly why I love the weather and gape at its awesome power.

Have you guys ever heard of ball lightning?

Actually, yes I have! In a few weather books I have, ball lightning is mentioned. However, little is known about it.
Some people have described it as &quotlayful," sharing stories of how it bounces down hills and chases buses. I also heard a story about a man who ran from a ball of lightning that was chasing him; the ball exploded upon hitting a door of a church that he had taken shelter in. I am not sure upon the validity of these stories; however, it does seem that ball lightning does exist.
Hope this helps!

Quick quiz to see what people know!

1. What is the difference between a gustnado and a tornado?

2. What type of front forces warm air to rise violently, often causing severe storms?

3. Individual (single-cell), powerful, often damaging thunderstorms are called...

4. What are the starting and ending dates of the Atlantic hurricane season?

5. The name for a higher-feeling temperature due to humidity is...
and the name for a colder-feeling temperature due to wind is...

I'll post the answers in a while, depending on how many people respond.
If no one answers, (1) it'll make me sad , and (2) I won't post the answers.
Have fun!

40 degrees Celsius? That would mean... 104 Fahrenheit! Jeez that is hot!
Or were you being sarcastic?
Either way, that's pretty extreme for summer!

I wanted to present some pretty awesome pictures for everyone, so here they are:

http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2008/04_01/tornadoDM3030d_800x533.jpg
Here is a spectacular wall cloud. It is frayed and tattered, giving it an all the more wicked appearance.

http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2008/04_01/tornadoDM3030e_690x800.jpg
This is a rope tornado, which is being lit by the sun which has also created a rainbow in front of the tornado, making for a spectacular photo. A house in the bottom center nearly missed being hit.

Think this is a wall cloud? Well it's not! It's actually a shelf cloud, a shadowy, clearly defined, low hanging cloud that signals an oncoming thunderstorm. Note that these shelf clouds tend to accompany supercells (quiz answer?) and severe thunderstorms only. In the background, you can see the sun attempting to shine through a treacherous deluge of rain created by the parent thunderstorm.

Hope you enjoyed these pictures!

Also, please participate in the quiz I created at the top of page 3 in this thread!
