I love the weather and have always been interested in it. To me, the creation of incredible storms and the patterns of heat, wind, fronts, and pressure systems in absolutely incredible, especially since many of these things still baffle humans!

I want to know: does anybody share my interest? Any other weather buffs out there? Or, some interesting story or fact about the weather?

Please, share it here!

Did anyone here about the tropical stom called Emily?

Ah, yes! It's a storm at the moment, but is expected to strengthen a little, maybe become a hurricane, as it slows over the conducive central Caribbean waters. It looks right now as if it's going to head up the East Coast, and quickly (when it gets there).

I'm glad that you like this thread!

I'm excited: the temperatures are returning to their averages (low 80's)! We've been in the middle to upper 90's for weeks now. That plus the humidity means about 110 F feels like almost every day, at least. Tomorrow's high is 83 F, one of the coolest days, if not the coolest, in weeks. That, coming right after today's sweltering high of 99 F (117 F feels like). Sweet relief!

Oh, don't forget about Hurricane Eugene! It's in the Eastern Pacific (southwest of the U.S.) and is moving away from land. It could become a major hurricane as it does so.

I kind of wanna see it closer to the coast so I can see some footage of it yet I don't want anyone to get hurt or lose there house.

Weird. It probably has something to do with the high pressure over the south-central parts of the country -- the same reason it was so hot here. But now it's cooling here, which may mean that the high pressure funneling the moisture into Arizona has moved away. Just my theory.

Hurricane footage is always interesting, but scary for the people who have to live through them... Imagine being a hurricane hunter! That would be crazy; to get to fly into each possible storm and look at it from a such a dangerous stand point... I shudder just thinking about it! Still, it'd be cool! :P

I stepped outside this morning, and it felt so good! So much cooler than yesterday! Yaaay!

I live in Iowa. For the past three weeks, temps have been in the mid to upper 90's, when our averages are in the low 80's F. Yesterday's high topped out at a steamy 99 F, with heat indices near 120 F. Today, the high is 87 F or so. Sooo much better. :P That 99 F yesterday was the hottest day so far this summer. We have reached 97 F multiple times, however...

It rained, it rained! Ever so slightly, but it rained! I'm so happy! It hasn't rained here in too long...

In other news, TS Emily has lost its status while traversing the mountains (name escapes me) near Haiti. There exists a small chance of it redeveloping. If it did, it would most likely skirt the East Coast.

Meh...it rarely rains in the Summer. But if it does. It's just some sprinkles or maybe, I don't know. Luckily, it was pouring one time in this Summer. One time.

A random rain shower popped up and it rained again this morning!

it rarely rains in the Summer

That stinks... I wouldn't be able to live through summer without its occasional rain storms...

Which reminds me. I suddenly have an excitement for snow again! That's a sign that summer is almost over. :P Too bad I have to wait three or four more months (crazy how much the weather changes in that time).

I hope this winter is really bad! >

Wow! Even for non-desert areas, that's a lot! But I guess it makes sense, sorta. For it to rain once there, a pretty strong system must have budged its way in there. And I'd bet it'd be really hard to get that system out. :P

More scattered showers today; we actually got some downpours! The storms were nearly stationary. On the radar, it looked like they were trying so hard to move, and just couldn't. :P

My history teacher last year had gone to Florida last year during winter break. He went to a starbucks, got his coffee, and asked the cashier if the outdoor seating was available. The cashier looked at him like he was crazy and said, "Yes, but why would you want to sit out there? It's only 50 degrees out." He explained, "I just got here from Wisconsin where it's -15."

As long as there is no drought. I'm perfectly fine. I think we've gotten enough water. And too much rain is sort of bad. Slippery roads lead to car accidents, flooding, mudslides, etc.
