It seems most of the Christians I know and Christians in general seem to have abandoned Jewish traditions. Even more disturbing is that I find many denounce the Old Testament in whole. I have even been told that a Bible quote I was using in a religious debate didn't count because it was from the Old Testament. Why do Christians so readily abandon their Jewish origins?
3. Shouldn't a kid get a say in whether or not someone cuts off part of their penis?
A child has no say in what religion they are brought up believing in. They don't get to chose if Christianity is right, or if Islam is the correct religion. If the child's parents want him to be jewish the kid has no say in it. You can't wait for the child to grow up because the circumcision is supposed the happen when he is 8 days old. The exception is someone converting to Judaism.
Your parents waited until you were old enough to decide what religion, if any, you wanted to follow?
I forgot to mention, I'm assuming here your parents followed a religion themselves, and they didn't make you follow it until you were old enough decided for yourself if you wanted to or not.
To start with, nobody remembers what happens to their genitals when they are 8 days old, it's not a traumatizing event.
If you give your baby a tattoo he won't remember the pain. So it's cool to tattoo your kid, right? I'm sure you'll say that that isn't part of a religion. So what if I start a religion where you have to tattoo your babies?
Also, i have never heard of anyone getting infected from circumcision. If they did get infected, medical technology today usually can solve this.
Like MGW said there are infections.
I think that circumcision is bodily harm. Every person has a right to decide if he wants to get circumcised or not.
Back to topic: Where I live nearly no Christian (I know) talks about the Bible. They see it as manwritten and in the historical context. Most of them don't even believe in a personal God but still call themselves Christians (probably because of cultural reasons). If you read the OT you know that it's full of violence and hatred.

I learned of all sorts of religions and was challenged to question things.

My mom was decidedly Catholic but would attend other Christian churches to compare. My dad came from Catholic upbringing but eventually developed something that was sort of a cross between Deism and Buddhism.

I have no problem with tattoos so go for it.
Nope they didn't. They would tell me what they believed if I asked but that's as far as it went.
Well that seems different to most cases, so I'll revise my statement to "A child usually has no say in what religion they are brought up believing in.

Do you really think that it's okay to tattoo a baby? Come on, that's bodily harm. Let's change the situation. My religion tells me that I have to cut of one toe of each of the baby's foot. Would that be okay? I mean, he doesn't really need 10 toes. And the baby wouldn't remember the pain, too. So what's the deal?

I couldn't really care less what you do to your baby.

I still don't really care what you do to your baby (when i say "you", i'm not talking about you grimml, just in general). I'm being completely serious. If you think the right thing to do is mutilate your child then go for it.
You may not but you have to be 18 or 21 to get tattoos legally in the US.

Thats what my parents did, but I think it stemmed from the fact that my mother was raised Catholic but started thinking about it when she was very young and decided it wasn't for her. Unfortunately that led to a fairly large divider between my mother and her parents, making this
By that logic they shouldn't be indoctrinating and subjecting children to their rituals.
