If you ask me, there IS alot of religions around the place. I personally am chritian and i dont mean to sound blasphemous or anything, but im certain that what i belive is right, so why are other people 'waisting time'with religions that in my opinion aren't real?
Well to them, it is real. Since the beginning of time, people have had many different ideas of how this world is right now, and what higher power there is. I am also Christian (Catholic to be precise) and I also believe almost everything in Catholocism. Also, you probably think that all other religions are wrong, because you were brought up in a Christian family. You also said "your opinion." There are probably many opinions that say Christianity is all wrong.
Many people would say that Christianity is wrong because Christians have gone about killing people in the name of their religion when an aspect of their diety clearly said "turn the other cheek" while another aspect of their diety said that killing was a crime punishable by death.
Christianity is just a blip on the "religion radar." The question could easily be turned to you: Why are you wasting your time believing in a god at all?
Well, I could go into that, but not right now. If you were born let's say in a Muslim family. You would almost surely believe in the Muslim faith. I am sure alot of religions could prove that their beliefs are real.
Many people feel the same way you feel about Christianity, except, for another religion. I am an atheist, and I feel like science DEFINITELY answers questions that religion does not. Oh, and the questions that religion does answer (with a ridiculous story 'LET THERE BE LIGHT!', science tries to come up with reasonable explanations that do not include an invisible man up in the skies watching our every move.
@XCoheedX:
Of course they could, I was born to a devout Christian family, I was a very active Christian until the age of logic. Then I began thinking for myself. I was always the type of person who likes science and learning about the origins of life and the universe, after investigating each theory/verse - scientific and religious - I have come to the conclusion that scientific theories actually give evidence to support every claim. They back up every point with a tremendous amount of proof. Religion, however, only provides a contradictory book. That is, however, the reason I respect religious people, they spend hours of their lives praying - especially muslims, who pray 5 times a day.
Oops, sorry, didn't finish that last sentence - went for a drink and lost my train of thought.
I respect religious people because they spend many hours of their life praying for a God which might not exist - their faith is so strong that it makes them think there is no doubt God exists. Reminds me of myself in the earlier years (around 12-13 years old.)
I agree. Devotion to a form of "blind leap" is certainly not dishonorable. Any religion, regardless of its schema, is rooted in the belief of diety or idea that is greater than its followers.
I, myself, am not religious but was raised in a very religious home. I found that religion was almost an insurance policy against the fear of death. I know that that is certainly not the case with some eastern religions, or I may be wrong altogether.
Well I don't pray everyday, but I go to Sunday every Sunday, and soon I'll be going to yet another Catholic school. I may be Catholic, but I believe in Creationism. You don't have to believe EVERYthing in a religion to follow it. I guess since we live in a country like ours, it is more likely that your religion may change after you become the age of "logic"
Well, then I will ignore what I said before. Anyway, back on topic, I still think there should be more than one religion even if you believe something else.
I think its impossible for everyone to embrace one unifying belief system. Can you think of a time in history when everyone agreed on anything in unison? Our track record isn't that good.
I think that religion may be more relevant because of its diversity. At least more interesting..in a way.
