Oh I also possibly realized the reason 3-D hurts your eyes. You're trying to focus on an object that is farther back than you think it is causing unnecessary strain.
It is just a way to make more money. Kids will beg their parents to go see a 3D movie until they take them. If its 2D then kids just act like it's any other movie.
It attracts the general populous, so most movies these days come out in 3D. Personally, I don't like 3D. I like to be able to watch a movie normally rather than things popping out at me.
What are you saying? 3D movies have been around in some form since the 1950's, it's not going to die anytime soon. Quite the opposite actually, they've been coming out with 3D tv's, gaming systems, and now even phones. Of course, they'll be improving it, like the 3D illusion without the glasses, but it's not just going to die off like some "trend".
In my opinion, most movies are much better without the effect, but obviously people really enjoy it. A lot of users keep bringing up Avatar. I personally saw this in 2D and it was still beautiful, but I'm sure it would look nice in 3D, too. All in all, I usually wouldn't pay extra for the 3D ticket, but for some movies I might. Depends on the movie, my mood, and how much money I have on me. ;3
3-D movies and such is still in its infancy, just like how video games were half a century ago. The only difference is that 3-D hasn't really been constantly improving, compared to other technologies. You see computer hard and software getting stronger and more efficient every year. But 3-D was introduced, then more or less came to a halt, until recently.
Who saw Spy Kids? *raises hand*
What kind of glasses did they use? (PAPERRRR)
What year was it shown in theaters? (A FEW YEARS AGOOOO)
When was the first popular introduction of the new 3-D glasses? (JAMES CAMERON'S AVATARRRR)
What year did that get shown in theatres? (TWO THOUSAND NIIIINE)
For quite a long while, the paper 3-D glasses have been used, with little to no improvements, until the new 3-D glasses (without the blue and red tape) were invented quite recently. They've been halting until a couple years ago, and I believe the recent connection will spur the usage of 3-D in many other applications. It just takes time, and I feel they will improve upon the technologies much better than we can imagine.
It's not even actually 4D, it's name is just incorrect and deceiving. Unless I'm traveling through time in that theater I'm not going.
That's exactly what I thought when I heard about this new '4D' experience thing. You get a scratch 'n' sniff card with the pictures.
OMG I was gonna add a sarcastic comment like "It'll be great when you can smell actual manure if it's on the screen", but I decided to research it first. Turns out that in 1981 there was a smell-o-vision movie called Polyester in which "audiences could smell pizza, glue, gasoline and feces." Who would want to smell that? Who would pay to smell that in a theater?!?!
It is the way technology is moving, I guess. Our grandchilderen will be complaining just like this when almost every movie is holographic.
Actually it'll be your kids. Holgraphic television will be a retail item in 6 or 7 years. So what will happen after that. Technological advances will never stop. Tehre will always be something new. And at the rate we are at it will be developed faster and faster. There will litereally be a whole new way of living every year. What is top of the line tech one day will be scrap parts the next.
You either want an special experience bigger that your recognizing and mind each time you watch movies or just watch the movie and can simply use all your emotions thinking about the logic limits of a normal movie.
