Games. Minecraft has proven their art. Crysis has proved it's not a cash-in market. You have proven they're the best form of entertainment to be had.
But tell me, whether it was roaming Rapture and scavenging for enough materials to get the explosive Bucks to kill that Big Daddy,
Or battling Colossi after Colossi to try and save the one you love,
Or practicing long and hard before taking on "Freebird" on Expert,
Maybe exploring the vastness of the galaxy and evolving your species throughout time and getting ready to fight the Grox,
Building your Civilization from the ground up,
Conquering Rome for the name of Germania,
Smiting the 1000 Heartless
Living with your Porphyric Hemophilia throughout all of Oblivion (vampirism)
Perfecting your technique before flawlessly getting that one awesome Assassination
Gathering the force of Ironheade to liberate the land
Maybe it was something entirely different, but tell Your Friendly Neighborhood Satanist, what was the greatest journey you ever had in a game, where when you finished, you couldn't help but look back on all you've done to reach that point.
Just Cause 2 for YFNS; so many adventures across the nation of Panau, it was a stunt-filled journey I advise anyone to take. All the challenges, the memorable missions, hilarious accents, simply wonderful. 8^)
Donkey kong. Why? Because i was very young and it was the first game i completed all by myself. My brother would never let me play it, and when i did, i beat it before he did, minus his endless gaming sessions on it and the few years between us.
3. Portal 2: This game was just insanely funny. Whether it was Wheatley's naive nature, GlaDOS/POTaTOES' heartless humor, or Cave Johnson's early Aperture Science speeches, it was hilarious all the way through.
2. No More Heroes 2: As well as being hilarious with Travis Touchdown's geeky, otaku personality and the constant 4th wall breaking, it also had a lot of symbolism. Questioning his motives for becoming an assassin, Travis tears down person after person just to avenge his best friend Bishop and end the madness of the United Assassins Association. The numerous characters (Especially the final few bosses) help Travis learn how horrible what he's been doing is. Plus, Beam Katanas are awesome.
1. Pokemon Gold: This game was the shiz. Probably had the best soundtrack, the best Pokemon, and the greatest journey of a Pokemon game. Not only do you journey through Johto, but also through Kanto to defeat the 8 gym leaders you face in Red/Blue/Yellow. After that you face the character that every gamer who played the prior Pokemon generation created: Red, the protagonist of the first game. And dang was that an epic fight.
The Grand Theft Auto series comes to mind instantly. The feeling of progressing in the game, gaining wealth and unlocking stuff is great. It's also fun to explore the game world and discover easter eggs and other things.
Another great series is Gran Turismo. They just keep getting better and longer, but the concept remains the same. Starting with a very limited amount of credits and slowly filling your garage with all sorts of cars while completing races, cups, licenses and other challenges is insanely fun.
I think Zelda Ocarina of Time gave me my best journey. I was young, and it was such a huge game. The world was amazing, and when I finally beat it I was somewhat sad lol One of the best moments of my gaming history.
