Inspired by "Ask A Muslim," I am creating this thread to answer any questions about Judaism. I will only answer questions about the religion, not why I believe in it, or how I can prove that it exists.

It doesn't really matter. I was circumcised and I have no problem with it. I don't recall any pain and there are health benifits. I'm glad my parents choose it for me. Being cicumcised or not won't really change your life so its not that big a deal.

I already said this in another thread (a while ago), but does it matter if I tattoo my baby? It won't recall any pain and it looks much cooler

I don't know what they're called, but what are the long curly sideburns that the men wear called? I think they only wear them on special occasions. And why are they worn?

They are called payos, and they aren't "worn" on occasion, it's their natural hair. To my knowledge, it's only worn by Hasidic Jews. I'm pretty sure the reason they do this is because the Torah says that you can not bring a blade to your face, and for whatever reason, they took it a step further and won't cut them at all. They don't have to be curly, they just like to curl them sometimes.

What is the purpose of the kibbutzin?

I don't really know much about them, I think they're just self functioning communities that runs similarly to a socialist country. You can try reading the wikipedia page for more info.

Could you list the holidays and what you do on them? I know a few(Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Purim, and Chanukkah).

There are around 20 of them, and i don't want to go into detail about all of them, so i'll refer you to the wiki page again.

Couldn't you just wear a bracelet or something like that?^^

No, that wasn't what Jews were told to do.

Which doesn't mean that they don't feel the pain.

No, but it's not like they're scared for life.

Shouldn't a person be able to choose if he wants these health benefits?

It's not for the health benefits, that's just a bonus, but yes they should, but it doesn't work that way. The circumcision has to take place 8 days after birth.

Tattoos are actually forbidden under Jewish law, so no.

That just depends on your opinion of wether or not tattoos are wrong.

No, that wasn't what Jews were told to do.

You're told to kill homosexuals (Leviticus 20:13) but you still don't do it.

but yes they should

Thanks, that's what I wanted to hear.

Tattoos are actually forbidden under Jewish law, so no.

I wasn't talking about Jews.

That just depends on your opinion of wether or not tattoos are wrong.

Oh no, please not this moral relativism... It's a person's choice if he/she wants to be mutiliated/tattooed/etc.

Then sure, if you wanted to.

You're told to kill homosexuals (Leviticus 20:13) but you still don't do it.

That's because murder is illegal

So if I tattooed a Swastica onto my baby's forhead, it wouldn't be a problem?

That's because murder is illegal

It's not murder if God tells you to do it

Would I like it? No. Would I respect your right to do that? Yes

It's not murder if God tells you to do it

Surely you realize that in modern day society it is illegal to commit murder. Also, Jews have become more, for lack of a better word, accepting and now don't really care what people do in their bedrooms. Unlike Christians.

It should be their choice, but so should the circumcision. What I'm saying is I don't care what you do to your baby.

What I'm saying is I don't care what you do to your baby.

What about the baby's right? You know that a baby isn't like some form of property, right?

Also, Jews have become more, for lack of a better word, accepting and now don't really care what people do in their bedrooms. Unlike Christians.

We're talking about Judaism in this thread not about Christianity (anyway I don't care because I'm an Atheist).

That only applies to Jews.

Okay, why aren't gay Jews killed? Why aren't Jews who work on Sabbath killed?

The LORD then gave these further instructions to Moses: 'Tell the people of Israel to keep my Sabbath day, for the Sabbath is a sign of the covenant between me and you forever. It helps you to remember that I am the LORD, who makes you holy. Yes, keep the Sabbath day, for it is holy. Anyone who desecrates it must die; anyone who works on that day will be cut off from the community. Work six days only, but the seventh day must be a day of total rest. I repeat: Because the LORD considers it a holy day, anyone who works on the Sabbath must be put to death.' (Exodus 31:12-15 NLT)

I know that. I was just drawing parallels.

Okay, why aren't gay Jews killed? Why aren't Jews who work on Sabbath killed?

They were back in the time of the Temple. However, nowadays we cannot and will not do that! Most of the rituals, and that includes penalties. Also, the Great Sanhendrin, the only Jewish court that could hand down the death penalty, is no longer active and has not been for about 2 thousand years!

No, but you are the baby's legal caretaker, so do what you want.

Okay, why aren't gay Jews killed?

I never met a homosexual Jew, so i don't know. Also, it's not that you can't be gay, you just can't have sex with another man.

Why aren't Jews who work on Sabbath killed?

Because "anyone who works on that day will be cut off from the community" not killed.

Why? I mean God clearly tells you to do that. (Don't get me wrong, I don't want you to do it, I just want to know the reason why you don't follow God's word)

No, but you are the baby's legal caretaker, so do what you want.

Which means that I can even kill the baby? Where do you draw the line?

Also, it's not that you can't be gay, you just can't have sex with another man.

Which makes it much better...

****, I messed up the last quotation. It should be:

Because "anyone who works on that day will be cut off from the community" not killed.

"I repeat: Because the LORD considers it a holy day, anyone who works on the Sabbath must be put to death."

Because Moses set up a court system under the instruction of God. If one did not receive a fair trial, then they would not be punished.

"I repeat: Because the LORD considers it a holy day, anyone who works on the Sabbath must be put to death."

There are multiple interpretations of that passage that master presented. Your's is only one of many.
