Play it safe people and evacuate if you are in the path of Irene.

Board up windows and get the sand bags rolling. Probably should get flood insurance. Maybe hurricane insurance if it exists.

Maybe hurricane insurance if it exists.

Actually, I did a quick Google search and apparently it does exist.

Ha then I would recommend the entire East Coast to get it.

Highly doubtful that insurance company's will approve hurricane insurance if everybody knows one is going to hit.

It a very big chance for a loss of a great deal of money for the company.

In Houston our house had Hurricane insurance. Boy, did that prove useful.

As for Irene, I'm not too sure. East Coast hurricanes have been weak in history for the most part. I'm in Northern VA so evacuating would be playing it way too safe. Houses here are structured for heavy rainfall as it is. I've evacuated from a hurricane before but this one won't be too scary coming in.
I do wonder what people in North/South Carolina are thinking of doing. The type of weather they're going to feel is probably going to seem otherwordly to them.

And KineticNinja, you're so right. Ever since '08 I feel like Nature is raging on the earth. Maybe its just that I started paying attention to the stuff more? Idk.

The hurricane is now a category 2 and the center is currently right next to the northern edge of Florida.

Probably should get flood insurance. Maybe hurricane insurance if it exists.

Most companies require a 6month or 1yr wait before a claim or you can't access the money. You need to have the insurance before you need it. Getting it now won't do anything towards this storm, just the next one.

This concerns me because this hurricane is going to be right next to me! I've never been in a hurricane and as of 11 AM EST it is moving at 14 MPH north. Source

It is becoming obvious that power will go out, the question is when. I hope it dosent last as long as the 5 day blackout of NYC a few years back.

If you think the power might go out, i'd get some water (10-20 gallons) so that you have it in case the water is out for more than a day.

Based on a recent tracker, the hurricane may just barely miss me. I hope that doesn't change at all.
